I haven't even downloaded this mix yet but I'm sure it's the best one ever just cause it's here. I guess I can go outside today, whew.

Glad you changed your mind, Sal. I commented only once before, asking about the Beatles' new box sets and you were helpful. I tried to comment again later and I couldn't log in for some reason. But you have introduced me to some great new music and I appreciate it.
BTW, I also saw Led Zep on their '77 tour and thought they were great but I had no previous shows of theirs to compare. In fact, it was my very first rock concert.
Anyway, it was good to me, although I must confess to an extremely altered state at the time due to our friends in Colombia!(Dave's not here, man!)
Thanks for all you do!

Any mix with NRBQ, Otis Clay, and Dion is just fine in my book. Thanks, and have a good weekend!

Oh yeah, I forgot. I love Radiohead and I had pretty much the same reaction to their new as you did. In the immortal words of Miss Peggy Lee, "Is this all there is?"

Thank you, sir! BTW I forgot to mention before Tod IS God (musically speaking, of course)

Well done that man and welcome back, even though you haven't really been away. Weekend just got better

King Crimson and Ella Fitzgerald in the same mix...my kind of fun.

As for the Kiss...no comment!

Thanks Sal.

@Noam

How could you NOT like "Shout It Out Loud?" "Hooligan won't go to school-agin," I understand.

Hi Sal,
Thank you for your weekend mix. I am glad you reconsidered. I think you have an interesting blog and I hope you continue with it. I really enjoy your tuesday cd reviews.

"Shout It Out Loud" instead of "Talk To Me"?

Or "Do You Love Me?" Har!

For shame, doc, for shame...

(Argh, now I'm in a KISS mood -- off to my iTunes!)

"What's on your mi-i-i-i-nd?"

Rushbo said...

On a 'Kiss' theme, I woulda had Ace Frehley's version of 'New York Groove' just for the big 'I'M BACK!' at the top of the chorus.

I can't understand people not liking Kiss. It's like hating kittens or puppies or Tom and Jerry cartoons. All that Radiohead has made us SO serious...

Welcome Home!

A little reminiscing here that you might understand. I cannot listen to 'Shout It Out Loud', without thinking of Little Nunz'. That was the nickname of Lou and Arnold's little brother (see how I met your blogger). When that song came out, he used to sing 'Charley of Love', thinking those were the lyrics. Picture this little meatball (he was maybe seven or eight), walking down the street singing 'Charley, Charley, Charley of Love'. It was hysterical.

P.S. Thanks for the acknowledgement.

I think it's a measure of a blog's success when you get your own troll. It's like a graduation present of sorts from an eccentric uncle. Anyway...Welcome back! And thanks for this. Looking forward to it.

I just saw Leon do that song last week at Town Hall, there are no coincidences!..glad your stickin' around. Although I usually check in daily, I didn't this week and just read all the brouhaha...glad it ended this week this way. Thank you for all the Music and words...

Good mix as usual Sal. As always, there's some good tunes I don't have and are glad to discover. Keep going, with no comments or a hundred.

Saturday morning in Berlin and the sun is shining which an unusual but welcome sight. I have my weekend-mix as well, so it's good to see some things can be relied upon. My car was stolen a few weeks ago along with several possessions including CD's. Until this morning I thought I had also lost Brendan Benson, My Old Familiar Friend which I discovered via this site and played more times last year than Bruce - just found it in my bag. Life's not so bad.

Ahhh YES! Good to have you back on it. Ain't That Good News is one of my favorite songs ever, great to hear it leading this mix off. Fun stuff!

just to spoke to Farve: his weekend mix of vicodin, his wife's undies, and some cow chips he drank w/donald driver are in the mail....

Wood is the opium of the musically inclined, toped with a slice of self-deprecating soppressata.

Here's one more that would have been a nice addition to this mix... "Brand New Day" by the Eurythmics. (I am not a big Eurythmics fan, but that album "Savage" was great.)

Not only is the song title indicative of a new start, but the song begins as an a capella tune by Annie Lenox, soon swelling to an uplifting mass of sounds. Your "one hand clapping" for this fine blog is now applause, I daresay!

Unknown said...

ok I like this. going through the alpha titles you could also add

Talkin' bout New Orleans - Meters
Talkin' Loud and sayin' Nothin' - JB
Talk About the Passion - REM
Talkin' bout you - CB and RS
Talking all that Jazz - Stetasonic

But Sal is smarther than just copying what's on the iTunes, so in the realm of communication don't forget Shattered and Heard it therough the grapevine and coup de garce, Randy Newman, Have You Seen My Baby:

I say, "Please don't talk to strangers, baby" But she always do
She say, "I'll talk to strangers if I want to 'Cause I'm a stranger, too"

Hang in there Brother Sal,

Maybe more " Texas Twang " would elicit more " comments "..... mostly negative I guess...comments are comments though...

Maybe you & I should get together & produce something Sal, think ???

Just a note about your blog - not about this mix, although it looks great. A couple months ago, you posted a mix that included the Ahmad Jamal song "Poinciana."

I've long listened to jazz kind of as a side venture from my main obsessions: power pop, soul, singer-songwriter/Americana. So anyway, I fell in love with this song by Ahmad! I mean, couldn't get it out of my head. Little did I know it's kind of a jazz standard of sorts that has been famous among some folks for decades.

So, to today. Today is -- I hope ALL of you reading this know -- 2011 Record Store Day. Which means it's up to us to get out and support physical stores and buy some of the stuff that these excellent blogs lead us to, right? So, today I found Ahmad's "Pershing Point" live LP from '58 with that magical song on it, and it's blowin' my mind.

So thanks for leading me to that, Sal. And remember, support your local indie record stores!

Cheers
Bill

Sal: Glad you're back up and running. No Lucinda Williams "Something Happens When We Talk"? What is it about record searchers that they can't be courteous ?while going through boxes of LPs or singles for that matter. Time and time again I've experienced rude behavior only to see the guy walk away without buying anything from the box he almost broke my arm to search. It must be a virus one catches from that grime on old records

Only recently discovered this blog, and have spent the last couple of months in going through your wonderful back catalogue. Well worth the trek. I find most of your musical selections most agreeable -- especially the New Orleans orientated music and artists such as Richard Thompson. Though I am still trying to come to terms with some of your heroes -Todd Rundgren for one, but I am willing to listen and be converted.
Also find useful your (in) frequent comments on new albums that are released. CDs are so expensive and there is so much good new music out there that it is useful to have a filter! Keeps the music coming - and let it Pour down like Silver!
