A bunc...WHAT MUSIC ARE YOU CURRENTLY GROOVING TO?
A bunch of r & b collections that I bought at the Louisiana Music Factory a couple of weeks ago. New Chuck Leavell. New Dr. John. "Rock of Ages," in memory of Levon. (And I pulled out the first Stax box for "Duck" Dunn the other night, and will listen to the expanded "Bad Girls" for Dorchester girl Donna Summer over the weekend.)

WHAT, IF PUSH COMES TO SHOVE, IS YOUR ALL-TIME FAVORITE ALBUM?
Sophie's Choice would be easier, and I'm not gonna agonize over it, as I find rankings of of this type kind of pointless. (Off the top of my head, I'm gonna go with "What's Going On?")

WHAT WAS THE FIRST RECORD YOU BOUGHT AND WHERE DID YOU BUY IT?
Johnny Cash - "Original Golden Hits" (on SUN, bitches!), at a long-defunct store in Lebanon, NH that I can't recall the name of. Still have it.

WHAT MUSICIAN HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO BE?
You mean BESIDES Johnny Cash? I had a real Steve Earle fixation in my yoof, but thankfully didn't emulate his worst habits, and eventually grew out of it. Now that I'm properly middle-aged, I wouldn't mind having been Edward Kennedy Ellington, or Cab Calloway, or Dizzy Gillespie, or hell, Mr. McKinley Morganfield himself.

WHAT DO YOU SING IN THE SHOWER?
I don't. But I drive an old car w/o a CD player, and keep the car radio tuned to the local classic rock station. I DO sing in traffic, which earns me some funny looks sometimes.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SATURDAY NIGHT RECORD?
If I have company, whatever the hell they want to hear. If I'm hanging by myself, the possibilities are endless, but most likely would include some Brian Jones-era Stones, some early Prince, some classic Zimmy, and some electric Miles. (But it could be anything, really...)

AND YOUR FAVORITE SUNDAY MORNING RECORD?
Not much for music on Sunday, but like Sal, I am a devotee of WWOZ's morning gospel program. Otherwise, maybe some Bill Evans or Glenn Gould, or some acoustic blues. - Bill BucknerAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4357001616333664522.post-12598809433201588512012-05-17T18:42:12.347-07:002012-05-17T18:42:12.347-07:00Late to the party, but here goes:
CURRENTLY? Wrec...Late to the party, but here goes:

CURRENTLY? Wrecking Ball, Girl Called Eddy, and Momofuku are in the car's CD player, but mostly I'm grooving to whatever the Shuffle Gods deliver. The last 5 cuts were Bill Evans - When I Fall In Love, Thunderclap Newman - Something In The Air, 5th Dimension - California Soul, Lucinda Williams - Essence, and Little Village doing a live version of Memphis In The Meantime.

ALL-TIME FAVE? Layla by a nose over Who's Next.

FIRST BOUGHT AND WHERE? I started with a couple of novelty 45's, Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead and Winchester Cathedral. First non-novelty might have been Buy For Me The Rain, an early single by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I was listening to my older siblings' Beatle records but my first LP purchase was the 5th Dimension's Up Up and Away. KMart.

WHAT MUSICIAN HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO BE? All of 'em.

SHOWER? In the AM before work, nothing... still waking up. On weekends I'll sing along with whatever is piping through the sweet overhead speakers we added in the bathroom during the renovation.

SATURDAY NIGHT? If I'm lucky and the kid is asleep and the wife isn't and sexytime is a possibility, it could be Avalon like another poster mentioned. Or Bill Evans.

SUNDAY MORNING? Bebel Gilberto's Tanto Tempo, or Getz/Gilberto. Julian Bream's Guitar for Relaxation also gets the occasional Sunday morning spin.JBnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4357001616333664522.post-13500340880505220392012-05-17T11:35:26.330-07:002012-05-17T11:35:26.330-07:00WHAT MUSIC ARE YOU CURRENTLY GROOVING TO?

Feeling the acoustic groove, enjoying vocal harmonies. This is no doubt related to playing in an acoustic band.

WHAT, IF PUSH COMES TO SHOVE, IS YOUR ALL-TIME FAVORITE ALBUM?
Ugh. Graceland? Don't have a cooler response, but if you ask for a straight up 40 minute choice, that't eh first thing that comes to mind.

WHAT WAS THE FIRST RECORD YOU BOUGHT AND WHERE DID YOU BUY IT?
I used to be able to walk to a record store when I was kid in Canadian suburbia and I bought Dirty Laundry by Don Henley. Thought it was trenchant social commentary, and I liked the "kick em when they're up" refrain.

WHAT MUSICIAN HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO BE?
Paul McCartney. I also have serious respect for Sheryl Crow for taking whatever success she had and using it to duet with all of her musical idols. What music are you currently grooving to?
Late...1. What music are you currently grooving to?

Lately, I am finding that I have to play the Rave Ups’ "Book of Your Regrets," start to finish on my iPod as I commute around the city. For a quick fix of mood, I go with John Gorka’s “I’m from New Jersey,” or some Southside Johnny, also a Bruce Bootleg from the River sessions.

2. What, if push comes to shove, is your all-time favorite album?

Hard to say, but I guess my desert island disc is Derek and the Dominoes “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.” It’s quite possibly the best heartbreak album ever and I love Bobby Whitlock’s voice mixed with Clapton’s, and the interplay between the musicians is great throughout.

3. What was the first record you bought and where did you buy it?

Got my first Emerson rstereo system. I went to Bradlees with birthday or confirmation money as I recall and I bought three records (still have on Vinyl): Jay Black and the Americans’ “Greatest Hits,” James Taylor Greatest Hits,” and the Bee Gees’ “Main Course.”

4. Which musician have you ever wanted to be?

I’d like to be Eric Clapton, Pat Metheny, Sonny Landreth, David Lindley, Robben Ford, Eric Johnson, Bill Frisell, Steve Forbert, John Hiatt, and James Taylor for a day each so I could learn how to play and absorb some lessons.

5. What do you sing in the shower?

It’s usually whatever “ear whig” my nine year old has been singing. It can be painful to hear me sing Adele.

6. What is your favorite Saturday night record?

If it’s sexy time with the missus, its Roxy Music and “Avalon.” If I’m ruminating by myself, I like some Michael Hedges’ “Aerial Boundaries” to navel gaze by with a beer or two chaser, sometimes three or more.

7. And your Sunday morning record?

Put on WFUV or the Beatles and get to making breakfast.Michael D.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4357001616333664522.post-5119536399171486412012-05-17T08:58:21.533-07:002012-05-17T08:58:21.533-07:00What music are you currently grooving to?
Ron Sex...What music are you currently grooving to?

Ron Sexsmith, Long Player Late Bloomer. It’s a year old, but I’m going to see him tonight so it’s popped back into my playlist. Choosing a Ron Sexsmith album is like shooting fish in a barrel, there isn’t a bad one!

What, if push comes to shove, is your favourite record?

Surf by Roddy Frame. A slightly obscure choice I know, but it’s one that I can put on at any given time and enjoy. There are so many great albums that I could list, but this one works for me as it’s never been played to death on the radio so I can still be surprised by the littlest thing.

What was the first record you bought and where did you buy it?

The 45 to Dancing in the Dark by Springsteen. The flip side was Pink Cadillac. Bought it at a Zellers store in the country.

Which musician have you ever wanted to be?

Steve Winwood. I’m a singer/songwriter who is a multi-instrumentalist, so I’m just jealous. If I could have his voice, that would be enough alone. But throw in the piano, organ, and guitar skill? That would be a dream come true. Paul McCartney comes a close second for similar reasons.

What do you sing in the shower.

Nothing. The acoustics in my shower aren’t worth it.

What is your favourite Saturday night record?

This is the hardest one to answer. When I’m along, I’ve 25,000 songs on my Ipod to choose from. However I’m never on my own on a Saturday night and my wife only likes about 1/3 of the music I do so I’ll pick from that list. If it’s late Saturday night, I’ll go with Elvis Costello’s North. It’s romantic and mellow and goes well with a scotch on the rocks.

And your Sunday morning record?

Neil Young’s Silver & Gold. Play it on a Sunday morning and you’ll see why.johnlewitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16573053711349161867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4357001616333664522.post-25873701925914623632012-05-17T08:30:52.671-07:002012-05-17T08:30:52.671-07:00WHAT MUSIC ARE YOU CURRENTLY GROOVING TO? While my...What music are you currently grooving to?
While my music is usually on shuffle, currently I'm playing "Rockpile-Live at Montreux 1980." When Adam died, I went on a Beastie Boy jag, which unless they come up on shuffle will last me until the next one passes. Roy Rogers, the slide player, got a session a few days ago. Usually, something or someone will trigger me and I'll begin a day of exploration finding connections.

What, if push comes to shove, is your all-time favorite album?
This was a tough one, and I finally narrowed it down to two, Spirit-The Family That Plays Together and the winner, The Jeff Beck Group-Truth. I never heard a guitar played that way, or a singer match the selection so well. Still haven't and it holds up still 45 years later.

What was the first record you bought and where did you buy it?
I was seven years old and had "earned" a dollar somehow. My Dad was a manager for the A&P in Belmar, and they had a rack jobber come in and put up a small rack of singles and some LP's. I spent about most of it on the single "Don't Be Cruel b/w Hound
Dog." I played that record on a little RCA Victrola over and over, as only a seven year old kid does. My Uncle, who was into Brubeck, teased me in that sarcastic way that Berle, Benny and Hope would about rock on the TV. I soon moved on to the Top 40 radio in New York, and didn't get back into Elvis for the longest time. But like the genre itself, he started it all for me.

Which musician have you ever wanted to be?
I'd like to play any instrument beside air guitar or drums. But I think a piano player would be the choice of them all. From Christmas to juke joints, you can play anything.

What do you sing in the shower?
I don't sing, but sometimes the brain rattles with a refrain that pops up.

What is your favorite Saturday night record?
"I'll give it a 90, Dick. It has a good beat and I can dance to it."

And your Sunday morning record?
Peter Bardens - Seen One Earth
Bob Dylan - Time Out of Mind
Monica Dominique/Palle Danilelsson - TogethernessGene Obertohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03521444791272594982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4357001616333664522.post-81704975558755903982012-05-16T13:50:54.627-07:002012-05-16T13:50:54.627-07:00WHAT MUSIC ARE YOU CURRENTLY GROOVING TO?
