Similarly meh about Teenage Fanclub, altho people I respect like them.
Yo La Tengo's popularity seems out of all proportion to their talent, altho, as Ken indicates, they can be a good cover band.
There's a good local musician, who had a solid regional musical career in the 70s/80s, who now is a Robyn Hitchcock tribute act. Other than "My Wife and My Dead Wife," "Listening to the Higsons," and a couple others, I'm not getting it.James A. His real charm was in the live shows and the stream-of-consciousness banter in between songs. The Demme movie did not capture this at all.
Yo La Tengo - completely agree. I only love them for their cover of Oklahoma USA.
Teenage Fanclub - one great record (Bandwagonesque), several very very good. One of the loudest bands I have ever heard. My left ear still bleeds every now and again from a show on Landsdowne St in 1991.Jeff Matthewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10733473221652080431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4357001616333664522.post-16718025707999879052012-06-22T06:12:14.476-07:002012-06-22T06:12:14.476-07:00Hey, thanks for this Sal. I know that I'm in the minority who thinks that the 3rd B.Star disc was diminishing musicality, but again, opinions are opinions. Glad to see some of the early (better) songs in there. And yes, the music super-fans may violently disagree with you about Teenage Fanclub...I happen to think that they are tremendously talented. But others may want to wear your intestines as a bandolier! ;)powerpopsterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03138217359056726864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4357001616333664522.post-61701119943302483192012-06-22T04:43:29.514-07:002012-06-22T04:43:29.514-07:00I expect most of the comments today to not be abou...I expect most of the comments today to not be about the show posted, but about TF and all that I am missing.Sal Nunziatohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09221629293545204260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4357001616333664522.post-72254918856466739542012-06-22T04:40:03.561-07:002012-06-22T04:40:03.561-07:00Looking forward to hearing this. I do happen to think Teenage Fanclub is among the best things out there -- at least everything from "Songs From Northern Britain" onwards (I could care less about their first few albums which were the really popular ones) -- so it'll be interesting to hear.

Thanks again and let the weekend begin!A walk in the woodsnoreply@blogger.com
