If you strip the songs down to their basics with guitar or piano and voice, it's just a song. There's not a lot of difference between say "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue, or "Tryin' to Get the Feeling Again" by Barry Manilow, or "Oklahoma USA" by The Kinks. Well, that song has better lyrics, but a lot of it is just songwriting basics, sometimes done very well(regardless of the recording interest and his/her fan base) and sometimes not. There's that famous clip of Patti Smith doing "You Light Up My Life" on a 70's kids show. She wasn't kidding! And she sounded terrible doing a song like that.<br /><br />Apparently, John Lennon really liked tracks like "Reminiscing" by Little River Band and "Telephone Line" by ELO.
