  1. Great selection, thank you. If I may be so bold as to suggest additions to it:

Seth Walker, texas blues guy, wrote a heartbreaking song about Hurricane Katrina called "2 Feet Left to the Ceiling". Listen, but grab a hankie first:

Next, Reba Russel singing a Jimmy Thackery song called Levee Prayer. Live version, joined by Jimmy, who shreds mightily:

  2. You might also follow the week after with a mix about nuclear apocalypse.

The current mix will do very nicely till then, obviously.

  3. Cool!
One gallon of potable water per person per day, pampers and baby food (although childless -- it seems practical), hand crank radio (if the batteries i bought were duds?!?). I might just wing it with a case of diet pepsi and this here mix . . .

  6. Hats off for making lemonade out of the impending Irene ... uh ... lemons. Hurricane Smith!? Pays to be an engineer at the Beatles' studio, huh? Pretty charming little record, anyway.
And thanks for excluding "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" (which may be more appropriate for the mix Steve Simels proposes, anyway), "Who'll Stop the Rain" and "Riders on the Storm," at least two of which I guarantee the oldies stations will be airing this weekend.

    Hold on tight out there.

  8. maybe something by Johnny and The Hurricanes would have been appropriate maybe Red River Rock. Even better how about a track by Rory Storm and The Hurricanes ft. Richie Starkey. Naw it's perfect the way it is although a 10 minute version of Hurricane by Dylan is that some kind of sick joke, no really I'm loving it the and great music to tape windows by.

  12. I think it's time for a reader suggested Hurricane mix. We're all gonna be sitting around watching the weather channel for the next 48 hours anyway, why not do something constructive. I'll start on a gospel note with "Let It Rain" by the Rev. Paul Morton. The vamp is basically "Purple Rain" which wouldn't be a bad add as well as Clapton's "Let It Rain".......
    Let the games begin

  13. yeah.....missed out with neil's "hurricane" and hey - why not some winehouse too? lots of tunes you could've used for that broad, since she WAS a virtual hurricane (and petered-out like hopefully Irene will).....

  16. I'm partial to Patricia Barber's "Let It Rain" - I'm a big fan, and I'm gonna get out to Chicago sometime soon to catch her.

  17. Having departed Atlantic Beach NC Friday morning in anticipation of Irene's landfall there, I'll throw a couple of tunes into the mix:

If not Neil's original "Like a Hurricane", how about Roxy's live version (which popped up on the iPod shortly after we got home)?

And, Lucinda Williams' "2 Kool To 2 Be 4-gotten"... for that great line leading into the chorus: "June Bug versus hurricane..."
