I doubt there is anyone out there with the time, patience and math skills to conduct this same experiment by pitting different songs against each other, just to see if "Rubber Soul" ends up having more songs in the mix. So, we will conclude this experiment with the final track list of 9 songs for "A Hard Day's Night" and 4 for "Rubber Soul." And I have no doubt that, when asked to rank The Beatles work from best to worst, "A Hard Day's Night" will still be left off of the Top 5.

Album battles are hard because you have to find two albums in an artists catalog that have the same # of songs.
ReplyDelete(I thought about "Headquarters" vs. "Picses, Aquarius..." but that would probably alienate everybody... and it's a 14 vs 13 song battle...)
"Destroyer" vs. "Dynasty"? Hah!
"Pretenders" vs "Pretenders II"? -- both have 12 songs
"Let It Be" vs. "Tim" vs. "Pleased to Meet Me"? -- all have 11 songs.
OOOH -- how about "Murmer" vs "Automatic For the People"? Both have 12 songs. Different stages of REMs career. Classic debut vs their best (IMO) album? I'm serious about this one.

I would love to do a Monkees battle. I've been on a serious binge for about a month, especially "Instant Replay," which has some of Nesmith's best. But you may be right about alienating everyone. Too bad.

My wife is a huge RS fan. When I did the comparison with her, she selected 9 HDN and 4 RS songs. Although she still prefers RS, she was amazed at the final tally. joe

On a *head-to-head track battle*, songs from II would beat songs from I without a doubt.

ReplyDeleteI know Shriner is a big fan of The Monkees, as am I. I also know a bunch of people, like you Michael Giltz, who have never heard more than Daydream Believer, or the new one because it was a new one.
