Crying In The Night- Buckingham Nicks
The last SOTW collection had two songs with the word "Tears" in the title. I had started compiling songs about crying for a future mix and aborted the idea. Here's one more from that almost mix.
Hold On To Your Hat- Rolling Stones
Pulled "Steel Wheels" out for a spin and a ticket stub from that tour fell out of the sleeve. 23rd row at Shea Stadium cost $28 in 1989, which is about $7 less than what parking costs now. BBJ mentioned not knowing a single note from this fine record, so I suggested he listen to this rocker.
Where The Good Times Are- Beverley
This past Record Store Day saw the release of some unreleased Beverley Martyn sessions from 1966-1967, that featured Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Nicky Hopkins. It's a great set of music that I highly recommend. This is the lead track, which might have been the only track that was released at the time.
That's The Way Of The World- Earth, Wind & Fire
A deep conversation with a friend about people, family and friends and the disappointment that comes with the territory, found me saying "That's The Way Of The World" about the whole damn thing. So, I felt like playing this song.
She's Not Mine Anymore- Robert Gordon
I'm playing "Red Hot" as part of a 20 song set for a private party coming up, and I thought about this Marshall Crenshaw penned track that sounds like nothing else by Robert Gordon.
Time Table- Genesis
I'm reading Phil Collins memoir, "Not Dead Yet." Laugh if you must. I am a Genesis fan and Collins is one of the greatest drummers who has ever sat behind a kit. The book is lousy, so far, but at least I get to listen to the music he mentions. This is a great track from "Foxtrot."
Success- Iggy Pop
"Here comes my Chinese rug." Genius.
Thankful for every post, every mix, and for the continued existence of this blog. I love the thought that goes into it, and the sheer love of music that makes it special. Keep making this depraved, debased, unkind, unworthy thing we call the internet a little better every day, Sal.
ReplyDeleteTodd Bless You.
@Zippy has eloquently expressed what many believe - that this is one of the finest places to spend time. Thanks, Sal!
ReplyDeleteSunday night at 9:28 and the Stones are belting out Hold On to Your Hat. Crikey! Can't remember the last time I took that album off the shelves. So thanks for that & the other unzipped tunes, good stuff. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThank you Zippy. Could not have said it better myself. Rave on Sal, rave on.
ReplyDeleteI recently saw Robert Gordon in New Haven at Cafe Nine.He was with Chris Spedding and they put on a great show to a sold out crowd. New Haven pizza and Robert Gordon = a perfect night!
