Aretha: The Weekend Tribute Mix

I would imagine anyone who loved Aretha Franklin, and that should be everyone, will be listening to her music for the next few days. This is a collection of some of my personal favorites. In my haste, I failed to include a song that is in my Top 5, so that track is represented above.

There are some hits, some album tracks and some rarities, and I am sure I could have made this a 5-CD set. The rarities here, by the way, are truly special.

Sail on, Queen.

  1. Hello all...no, please remain seated,

The phrasing on Till You Come Back To Me. You could count on one hand the singers with the vocal chops, control, diction and artistry to have sung that song and you would have plural fingers remaining. We lost an artist.

  3. thanks, Sal. went right to you because I knew you'd post something special.
(had a blast watching her in the blues brothers last night. She's maybe the best thing in it, and I'm not just talking about her singing, "Think."

    "Don't you blaspheme in here!"

  4. Got the remastered Lady Soul a few years back and the unedited “Chain of Fools” with the her long intro blew my mind. Great collection, Sal!

  5. Sal, I'm guilty of not listening to Aretha as much as I should have over the years so I very much appreciate the mix. Looking forward to listening to it all weekend long.

Looking forward to this! Aretha is all I've listened to this week... gimme more.

Sal, have you ever heard "A Rose Is Still A Rose"? Love that song, easily the best of her late-career songs, to me.
