No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

  1. reminds me of The Aluminum Group, but it's not even done as yacht rock. Brian gets some coin off of it, doesn't he?

  2. You need to stop holding your true feelings in check, Sal. Serenity Now!!!

  3. The first time I heard the Beach Boys sing Darlin' it was thrilling. I didn't understand why it wasn't a bigger hit. It is still thrilling for me when I hear it a billion years later. For some strange reason, I feel that this version is equivalent to stealing. Not sure why.

  4. It's a perfect pop song. Not just a Top 5 Beach Boys song, but an all timer for me.
I have no issue with She & Him. I really enjoyed their first record. Reinvention is one thing. Sucking the life out of something so perfect and innocent is a crime. It's as if no one involved had ever heard the song. I am hoping the full album of Brian/Boys covers isn't all this horrible.

  5. I've listened to She & Him in the past and liked some of their stuff. "Darlin'" is a perfect pop song. This cover is a crime. Saw it and listened yesterday out of curiosity and couldn't;t believe how madly they missed on this one.

  6. I leave the She & Him discussion for another day.

I'm with you Sal ... "It's a perfect pop song" and sometimes I lose track of gems like Darlin' -- thanks for the reminder.

  7. The (huge) problem with the music these days is that the performer thinks they are not just talented but funny too. This version, with no video, sounds just okay to me. Is not like they had to reinvent or surpass the original.

  8. Does anyone have a sharp object I can stick in my ears to relieve the pain?

  9. I also think that I can safely say that the world does not need another Brian Wilson Tribute.

  10. Wow that's bad. When cute fails it fails big.

  11. I'm feeling nothing at all. Nothing. The life has been sucked out of it (and out of me, christ).

  12. Oh, come on. It's not that bad.
The video's kinda cringey, but it sounds OK. Just unnecessary.
    Lighten up guys!

I want you to like me, so I'll make this anonymous.

  13. Nothing like a bright, sun-shiny, upbeat, happy pop song delivered like Sebastian Cabot.
    NOOOOOOOOOOO!
    Horrible.
    And I am very light!

  15. That was more Carl Reiner than Cari Wilson.

  16. @Sal - after reading your Sebastin Cabot reference, in my mind's eye, I know see Brian Keith, sitting at the table, with both hands covering his face, and sighing in desperation. https://www.emmys.com/news/online-originals/classic-family

  17. There's too much negativity online so I'll be positive- She is still a babe.

    Ahhh screw that- it's horrendous.

  18. Oh No (thanks Wet Leg)

  19. At first I thought to myself "Oh, it's not THAT bad", and then it went and got THAT bad. And it kept getting worse! I like She & Him, but this is a WHIFF. Just because you really love a song doesn't mean that you'll be able to sing it well.

I made it to just about the 2 minute mark & I bailed. It doesn't get good after that, does it?

  20. Oh dear. I listened to the entire album and it's exactly what a good tribute album should be -- instead of rehashing all the obvious hits (see: 99% of all tribute albums) they dug deep into the catalog (at least to this casual but better informed Beach Boys fan than the hoi polloi) and offered up their own takes with the right spirit and charm. But what do I know? I still think Pet Sounds is their best studio album. :)
