zip

No Time- Marshall Crenshaw
(Marshall Crenshaw covers Jeff Lynne? Yes please.)

Earn That Love- Mark Johnson

(I first discovered Mark Johnson after falling in love with the song "Love Radiates Around," a Johnson song that the Roches covered ten years before he did. This track opens Johnson's "12 In A Room" which remains a power pop classic.)

Only To Ease My Mind- Brian D'Addario
(Solo Lemon Twig release is getting better and better with each spin.)

Waterfall- 10cc
(An early Stewart/Gouldman, non-LP single that I haven't thought about in ages.)

Point Me At The Sky- Pink Floyd
(An early Gilmour/Waters, non-LP single that I actually hear quite often. That period of Pink Floyd, 1966-1968, is still my favorite.)

Jeannie Needs A Shooter- Warren Zevon
(C In California asked, "Bruce's shootin' Janey or Warren's shootin' Jeannie?" I do love both. Hard to choose. So for the purpose of this mix, I'll say Warren.)

Saturday Night- Roy Brown

(The best R&B belter to ever get arrested for mail fraud.)

  1. Sounds like a Simel’s quiz of the week; fav performer’s arrested for mail fraud

  2. Saturday Night song sounds somewhat similar to Let The Four Winds Blow which Brown co wrote with Fats Domino. Very interesting guy and one of the first rock stars.

  3. And speaking of Mark Johnson (or Marc Jonson, whoever he is this week) -- he wrote this for my old band, and sings background vocals on it. To die for, IMHO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIcZqx3-Zb4

  4. Thanks for the Mark Jonson tip. I knew the gorgeous Roches version but never knew who Jonson was. Listened to "12 in a Room" —pretty great stuff.

  5. Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School doesn’t reach the heights of Zevon’s previous 2 albums, but it’s a solid effort. I still enjoy listening to it all these years later.
