I first played The Tubs' "Cotton Crown" back in March and really enjoyed it, though I do recall thinking Mojo's review was a bit much. I finally went in for a second spin yesterday and I am still digging it. It's a trim 29 minutes and it's catchy as all hell.
I made a comment on the "Now Playing" blog that said, "If you had told me this was an unreleased Husker Du record, I'd have believed you." But on second spin, it sounds more like Richard Thompson fronting Sugar.
Check these out. I think I really like this album.

I’m in agreement with you on this album. Good mix of jangle and melancholy. A couple of weeks ago, I posted it in a Facebook CD group describing it as Darker Days era Connells with a young Richard Thompson on vocals. I’m also hearing Bevis Frond’s Nick Saloman in the vocals as well. Terrific album.
All three of these are solid. Will give the whole thing a few spins. Agree with the Sugar/Connells/RT vibes.

Thank you, Sal…This whole records rockin’ me!
Richard Thompson fronting Sugar - spot on!
Ooh boy, I'm in! Good stuff!

The RT reference sent me back to the RT tribute Beat the Retreat with Bob Mould doing a killer version of "Turning of the Tide." RT fronting Sugar is indeed just about right. I'm on this one now. Thanks. -Muzak McMusics
