I imagine some of you, like me, have been listening to both Sly and Brian this week. I listened to more Sly than Beach Boys because it was easier for me. I have more of a history with Beach Boys music than with Sly. There are too many Beach Boys songs that trigger memories of summer and cousins and Brooklyn beaches and I wasn't prepared to handle that yet. So I did some deep diving with the Family Stone and put this mix together.
Maybe you're as much of a fan as I am and this mix will be just as familiar to you as the band's greatest hits. If you only know the hits, I hope this sends you back to the catalogue for more.

Looking forward to this.
ReplyDeleteEggs. Cellent.😎
ReplyDeleteLove this mix. Thanks so much. Only thing I would have added is the track I always end every Sly mix with..."There's a Riot Goin' On". Just that silent note to Sly's greatness.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this!
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to dive in. The 1st couple of albums slipped my radar much to my chagrin. Similar to only buying singles by Areatha, Smokey, Stevie, etc. Sorta a pattern there. Their albums have wonderful songs on each of them.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing this!
ReplyDeleteI got to participate last night in another 'Vinyl Night' with some friends here in Atlanta, and I played the first half of 'There's A Riot'. Hadn't listened to it in a minute and WOW! I knew it was good - very, very good - but it's even better than I'd remembered. Much more modern sounding than I'd remembered, like a road map to so much funk/R&B afterwards, but just such a visceral, physical album. So good.
Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteNice way to shake up our memories. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's been a rough week.
