A FEW NOTES:
Andrew Matheson, lead singer of the Hollywood Brats died last week. Even if some glammy punk rock isn't your cup of tea, Matheson's book "Sick On You," his story of forming the band, is worth your time. It is one of the most hilarious accounts of a rock and roll band I have ever read. And their one album is pretty great, too.
I listened to a Millie Small collection last week and was happy to discover a number of fun tracks other than "My Boy Lollipop."
I also discovered last week, that The Meters "Cabbage Alley" is a much better record than I remembered. I mean, I always liked it. But last week, I really loved it.
Can't wait to hear the Millie Small.
ReplyDeleteNice mix, especially the For Real Elvis cover - really loved that one. Don't know anything about the movie it came from - looked it up, Scorcese was one if the producers.

"Grace Of My Heart" is a really good movie with a really great soundtrack. It's also where Costello/Bacharach's "God Give Me Strength" first appeared.
DeleteThanks for this! You put together a Sparks comp here in early April 2022 that helped open my mind to that group ... I'd only heard of them but didn't 'get' them. They seem to be having a moment these days with their new record.
ReplyDeleteSad to hear about Andrew Matheson's passing... that book of his is literally one of the best rock autobio's I've read. A real rags to rags story, plus the Hollywood Brats were pretty great. RIP.
ReplyDeleteI find more and more your weekend playlists provide a roadmap of what I am going to listen to on Monday at work. Thanks for sharing.
