Hah!

Great MC song of the day. Back in May I did a guest DJ set on my pal’s community radio show. Today’s cover version was one of the songs…

Kinda off topic, but the Jennifer Lara is a great record. All of the reggae records of the week have been huge fun. You have re-sparked my love of reggae, and I thank you. I may have to get my Heptones Night Food out for a spin now.

Love the song of the day. It's my favorite thing on the Good Evening album. Why Hiatt never issued "Someplace Where Love Can't Find Me," on his own escapes me. You have to find the bootlegs of his song demos to hear Hiatt's rough and sardonic take. Shit, Crenshaw even used Hiatt's longtime guitar player on the track. It all comes together perfectly with Landreth on board.

Good Evening is one of those albums that get better over time. At least for me. The covers and collaborations don't bother me. Hell, I've seen him do "Don't Fear the Reaper," before. Another highlight that comes to mind is "Whatever Way the Wind Blows." It's a mid-tempo, heavy on the back beat shitkicker. You know where it's gonna go and how it's gonna end from hearing the first few bars. You know the frame, you know the subject and you know the paint. But, like a lot of things in life, it's all about how you stroke it. I get off on the middle eight, James Burton's hot licks and J.D. Maness' pedal steel prowess. But that’s another song.
