As Troy mentioned in the chatbox, there is a new Squeeze record coming next year, as well as a new Joe Jackson record. The first Squeeze single is solid, and a bit grungy for them, I think. It's also a strange choice for a first single. Still, I dig it.
Today, the new Cheap Trick record "All Washed Up" is out. After one pass, I am not disappointed. I love their consistency and I'm thrilled they don't fix what ain't broke. Robin Zander sounds like it's 1979.
There is also a big Black Crowes box out today. This features a new remaster of their 1994 hit "amorica." But it's the bonus stuff that makes this an exciting set for B.C. fans. The long lost "Marie Laveau" sessions finally gets an official release. I've been wanting this since the first time I heard them play "Exit" in concert in 1992. It also features "Tallest" which is material that was recorded either before "amorica." or immediately after, I forget.
And how about the new big "Black & Blue" box from the Stones? We've discussed this record numerous times on these pages. Some love it and some don't. So far, I've only heard the "Outtakes & Jams" disc and it was typically underwhelming when it comes to these things. But I did enjoy hearing "I Love Ladies" sound as good as it did. I am looking forward to hearing Steven Wilson's remix this afternoon.
That's all I've got for today.

Love the Squeeze single. I hope the Cheap Trick shows up today so I can listen later. The Black and Blue interests me more than it should. Steven Wilson remixing the Stones seems odd to me, in a good way. Funny that Joe Jackson announced a new album without a new song to go along with it. That's the only upside to those 6 month pre-order campaigns.
I read that the Squeeze album is actually made up of songs Glenn and Chris wrote in the mid 70s, before their first album. Kinda cool on one hand, but I do hope they are still writing new stuff.
I'm excited for new JJ and Cheap Trick too. And Black and Blue has my favorite Stones song, Hand of Fate. Just a badass tune.
With as shitty as everything is right now, I'm looking forward to music to provide a welcome distraction. Have a great weekend, everyone.

Seems like I'll be listening to a lot of music this weekend! And I love the new Squeeze song! Thanks Sal
Owen Biddle is the Squeeze bassist and producer? Watching all those years with him in the Roots backing the Tonight show, the last I would have guessed!
Still wrapping my head around the new Squeeze song. Agree that it's an odd choice for the first single. Listening to it yesterday did inspire me to play The Knowledge. Some good songs there, but it's a step down from Cradle to the Grave. However, any new Squeeze is good Squeeze in my book.
Good stuff all 'round. That Hollies cover is...interesting. 😎
Black and Blue is still my favorite Stones album. It's everything I thought the Stones are and everything you thought the Stones weren't.The new song sounds like it's right in the production wheelhouse of Black and Blue but doesn't have too much substance.Still it warrants a B plus . The solo on Hand of Fate might be the highlight of the disc though I remember Memory Motel blowing our minds in Pershing Schoolyard Sunset Park,Brooklyn when we first heard it.
Anxiously awaiting the book Salvatore..........happy trails.
I'm a fan of Black And Blue - partly because I'm a fan of mid-tempo and ballad Stones, probably more than rock Stones.
For instance, I'll take side 2 of "Tattoo You" - with Worried About You, Tops, Heaven, No Use In Crying, and Waiting On A Friend over most Stones sides.
Yeah, I said it!
And, I Love Ladies does sound pretty groovesome.
Thank you for saying what needed to be said: Side 2 of Tattoo You is the absolute best. I’ve always preferred it to the first side. And it slays late at night. :)
Amen !!
I was not a fan of Black and Blue when it first came out because it didn't think it seemed very Stones-like at the time. Over the years I've become a big fan I was able to appreciate the music for what it was. When I heard Steve Wilson was doing the remix I thought it kind of odd as I only know him from his work with XTC and King Crimson as well as other prog- rock bands. I was curious so I ordered it and I'm looking forward to listening.
Sal,
I know your record business has been slow. You love to write and research and you're very knowledgeable about music past and present. Have you ever thought about creating an online course? I know it would be a lot of work, but I suspect you'd love the process and if promoted well, could be another source of income.

I always loved Black and Blue; I bought it as a kid when it was originally released. After watching Norman Maslov's review of the box on his YT channel; I splurged for the box. The live show sold me
That's all you've got? That's a LOT!
I love the album, as well, which is maybe why I was disappointed in the remix. It lost some life, especially the snap and punch of Charlie. Looking forward to the live set.
The remastered Amorica and the bonus songs sound terrific
Looking forward to listening to all of these, especially Squeeze and the Black and Blue box. Have a great weekend!
Definitely looking forward to the new Squeeze and Cheap Trick! I never got into the Black Crowes, and half of Black and Blue I can do without, so I'm not interested in a remix.
I am liking Black and Blue way more than I expected.
