if i can trust my 50 yr old memory, Sting's voice caused me dismiss The Police but by the release of Regatta de Blanc I was intrigued by Copeland's rhythms.
If you have Monsieur Sting singing, maybe I agree with him. But you can’t deny this guy is an over grown child. I am not a follower but I guess he was not invited to collaborate regularly. Even Ginger made some friends in the business.
I've always thought Stewart Copeland was a bit of an arrogant dick. And so was/is Sting. And Andy is no prize. But I love Sting's first four or five solo records more than I do The Police records. It's smart music with great playing. That said, those Police records sound the way they do because of all three of them. They were a band!
Who of these was ever asked to collaborate regularly from a an iconic band ? Peart, no - Ginger, rode coattails, Dino. (stupid good)... It's studio drummers doing a one off or two - Aaronoff (sp), Gordon, Blaine, Keltner, Porcaro who do the collaborations
The obvious is Mr. Collins of course. Ringo has been invited to many songs by diverse artists, Cozy Powell, Brufford, Bonzo played on that nice gem from Screaming Lord Sutch, Ian Paice, Levon Helm...What I was trying to say is that, after The Police disbanding at their peak, it seems to me that no one wanted to touch this guy. But again, I can be wrong.

I'd rather play less behind a great song than more behind a mediocre song.
Copeland is a really neat guy.

Gotta love drummers. I never really thought of Copeland as a bang on it guy, but rather more nuanced than that.
