Caramanica apparently chose Young Thug and wrote his bio for the article: “…the Atlanta surrealist Young Thug, whose main gift to songwriting has been his ease with dismantling its norms…” “…Young Thug’s dazzling dyspepsia…” “…the remaking of rap music into a sound that’s practically posthistorical…”
I wondered if someone named Young Thug might be an improvement over the stereotypical dehumanizing gangsta rap that I hate, so I read the lyrics of the “Five Essential Songs” and watched two videos. He’s not. No norms were dismantled by Mr. Thug. n-word n-word b-word b-word f-word f-word s-word, YSL, watch, car, n-word n-word n-word b-word b-word f-word… to infinity.
I’m gonna listen to those Lemon Twigs songs and cure my dyspepsia now.
writing about music of any kind today is a mad scramble to say something about nothing. pretending you know lots about nonexistent genres in a post pre - op ambient redux country soul heavy moronica americana banana prog a ganza art wave indee pink folk fairy tale world is a heavy load. it is especially difficult in a limited language like anglais.

When I watched this I just wanted to grab Caramanica by the throat. What a smug bastard!
