Squeezin'

From 1985, please enjoy what I thought was a new Squeeze single when I first heard it, George Benson's almost Top 40 hit, "20/20."

I don't believe George Benson has ever tried to sound like Glenn Tilbrook before, or for that matter, after this record.

  1. That is awesome. I didn't see that one coming when I saw the George Benson post.

  2. Good observation, though Squeeze probably wouldn't have went all in with the "1985" production elements (George was having hits so that didn't keep him from using them).

I remember hearing the Foo Fighters "Big Me" on FM rock radio and thinking "Great, NRBQ is finally getting some airplay....."

  3. Very cool song, but it doesn't immediately strike me as Squeeze-ish. 😎

  6. By the way, “squeezin” as in “Breezin,” George Benson? Is this thing on? Tough crowd.

  7. I don't think I ever heard it in the '80s, but I discovered it about five years ago and quickly fell in love with it. Never made the Squeeze connection but you know, it does sound like something they'd write.

  8. Well spotted- I never noticed until you pointed this out - definitely sounds very like Tilbrook in that opening verse!

  9. Oh I enjoyed the "sqeezin'" and "breezin'" play on words. Well done. Mind you, hindsight is 20/20. I've listened to three George Benson albums: The Best Of, Walking To New Orleans and Beyond the Blue Horizon. None appealed. Is there one I SHOULD listen to?

  10. Thx! Well, there you go. I listened to Beyond The Blue Horizon because you mentioned it. But even "fans" don't have much to champion. Maybe I'll try one of the really early albums.

  11. The George Benson The Other Side of Abbey Road is well worth a listen. Maybe not great, but darn good, and fun.
