It's Not The Heat, It's The...Okay, It's The Heat!

I've lived in NYC my whole life. Whether in Sheepshead Bay or Greenwich Village, at some point during the dog days of summer, if you were outside, you would hear amazing music like this coming out of a car stereo or a boombox.

Stay cool everyone. Let Ray Barretto take the heat!

  1. That put a spark in my step. The Sam Dee’s tune is very, good, too. Thanks for the Holmes Brothers reminder as well. Simple Truths looks to be a winner.

  4. Time for Martha and the Vandellas, or is that too spot-on?

  5. I realize not everyone's gonna agree with me on this, but I am rapidly coming around to the opinion that the only reason we "like" summer is because it reminds us of a period of freedom when we were young. I mean, objectively speaking, summer weather really sucks, especially of late. 😎

    1. I understand those who feel the way you do about summer. For me though, it's more than childhood memories and or evocative music.

First and foremost, I am the one who has to shovel snow every winter. I will not die shoveling snow.

Also, I have terrible arthritis in my knees. There are days in the winter where I can't stand up long enough to go from my office to the kitchen. The hotter, the better.

I love the ocean. Not swimming, but being near it, with a beer in my hand. It's where I am my most calm. You can't do that with any comfort any other time than the summer. Even 65 degrees would be too cold near the ocean.

Aside from xmas music, there is NO good music that takes you back to January.

  6. I totally get it about the arthritis thing. And January music. 😎

  7. And to think that only 5 months ago, us New Yorkers were bitching about record freezing temps and snow fall.

Stay cool everyone. Find a way to celebrate the 4th!

  8. Sal, your comments above about the woes of winter echo exactly what my best friend, a Queens native who's lived here in Atlanta for decades, says. He always says "You can do thinks to help with the heat ... but nothing really solves for extreme cold." Not sure I totally agree with that, but then, I've never lived in NYC or somewhere that gets even colder in winter.

And he says the same thing as you ... his life path is all about finding a way to get not only to the sun ( as we have here in ATL) but to a beach somewhere, eventually.

  9. It's the heat, it always is. Just got back from a food run, the A/C's cranked up, and the Baretto helps too. Like the man said- we'll be bitching about the cold in five months. One good thing about Summer- there's a car show tomorrow!
