The Trans-Canada Highwaymen, a Canadian supergroup of powerpop sorta-legends, have announced their new record, "Explosive Hits Vol. 1.," featuring new takes on Canadian classics by The Guess Who, The Poppy Family, April Wine, and The DeFranco Family, who I had no idea were Canadian. (I thought they were fron Bath Beach Brooklyn.)
The band consists of Moe Berg (The Pursuit Of Happiness), Chris Murphy (Sloan), Craig Northey (Odds) and Steven Page (Barenaked Ladies).
This has potential. I love a good cover, though I have never been a fan of Barenaked Ladies. But I think the solid reps of the other bands will make for a fun time.
Listen to their take on Lighthouse's "Pretty Lady," a top ten hit in Canada, only reaching #53 in the USA.
You can pre-order CDs, LPs and cassettes over here.

Fearless Prediction: I’m gonna love this record.

ReplyDeleteof fun. Thank you
Who still buys cassette tapes?
ReplyDeleteI knew they formed to tour around Canada playing their respective band's biggest hits. Sounded like a great show. This record sounds even more exciting I love the tag line. Your favorite hits of the 60s and 70s played by your favorite artists of the 80s and 90s.
ReplyDeleteNice cover of Pretty Lady, love the original by Lighthouse.
