"George": THE WEEKEND MIX

This came out of nowhere.

I wanted to hear some solo Harrison so I made a playlist for my own amusement. I enjoyed it and now it's here for your amusement.

This mix made me realize that George was a pretty great singer.

  1. Makes you wonder what George might have achieved if he hadn't been in a band with the greatest songwriting team ever.

  2. What Is Life is probably my favorite Harrison solo track. Thirty Three and a Third got a lot of play during my formative years. Still holds a special place in the jukebox of my mind.

  3. He's far from my favorite singer or guitarist (tho his solos in Octopus' Garden and Something are two of my fave guitar solos), but he undoubtedly contributed greatly to the success of two bands I love, the Beatles and the Travelling Wilburys; it might suggest that he, like his old mate Eric Clapton, shines best in an ensemble. But if he did nothing else but write the sublimely beautiful and elegant All Things Must Pass, he'd be a great.
    I'll add that, growing up listening to the Beatles, his songs slid right in with the LenMac songs (quality-wise), undifferentiated by me save for the vocals telling me George was the author. And that's praise that's hard to beat.

  5. Thanks Sal. Comparing ATMP to Mac1, I don’t know how it is that he never applied to lead The Fabs in 1970.

  6. Trying to recreate this playlist in Qobuz. What are the sources of It Don't Come easy, Abandoned Love, and Poor Little Girl?

    1. "Poor Little Girl" is from The Best Of Dark Horse: 1976-1989." The other two are from unofficial rarities comps.

  8. Lovely. All four Beatles were stars. It's remarkable they played so well together. But that's the Beatles for you.

  9. Nice! I was just saying to my wife yesterday, I think George may be becoming my favorite Beatle. (not a reliable statement, but there you go)

  10. Not a major Harrison song, but I've always really loved "Cheer Down"
