I know I listened to James McCartney's debut "Me" back in 2013. What I don't know is why I didn't play it again until this past weekend. He recently released a new single, which I liked, and that led me back to "Me." I loved this record enough to play it a second time and I can't figure out why it didn't hit me the first time around. It's ten different Paul McCartney records in one. How could it not be?
James writes like his dad. "Me" sounds like a number of different Paul styles. There are a few grungy little rockers that sound like they could have been on "Back To The Egg." There are songs with simple but compelling instrumentation, like dad's solo records McCartney's "I," II," and "III." But "Me" mostly reminds me of Paul's "Chaos & Creation In The Backyard" in both style and structure.
James McCartney plays almost everything on "Me" and Paul appears on a number of tracks, as well. As I already mentioned, I wanted to listen again almost immediately after the first spin. I hope you can hear what I am hearing. Then again, maybe you have been listening since "Me" was first released, and if that is the case, why the hell didn't I get the memo?

All three are well played, arranged, and recorded. I enjoyed Strong As You and Snap Out Of It more than the other sample. While I certainly hear Paul’s influence, the songs are smart enough to stand on their own.
The cover from World Party is, as expected, gorgeous.
Swerve from Tin Men has a feel something like Bobby Charles fronting NRBQ. Tasty!
- Paul in DK
I'll check it out! One more example of the luck and magic that surrounded the Beatles: despite all the pressure, none of their kids have proven to be jerks or spiral down under the intense glare. Julian, Sean, Dhani, Stella et al seem like decent people and at least haven't embarrassed themselves. Kind of amazing.
Nice stuff! Totally missed it first time around. And in other Son Of news - have you heard Stanley/Simmons (sons of the Kiss guys)? strong CSN vibe to this track - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SRRc7GGUXQ
That Stanley/Simmons is really good!
Going in, i was really skeptical but I was pleasantly surprised. Some really good stuff and I thought the acoustic guitar playing was really tasty. Apple credits show that he played everything but if Paul is all over it I don't know if the younger Macca gets all the credit.
That is surprisingly good. Even if you don't need the bread, it's pretty ballsy to make a record at all if Paul McCartney's your dad. And it doesn't sound as much like Paul as Julian sounded like John on Valotte. Oh, and "Bobby Charles fronting NRBQ" is a great line form Paul in DK. Is that Denmark?
