You Want The Bad News Or The Bad News?

On 11/27, I received this email from the company that hosts all of the blog's files.

We are writing to inform you that we are planning an infrastructure migration. Your account - burnwoodtonite.blogspot- will be included in this migration. This will improve operational efficiencies and deliver better performance to our customers.

Date of Migration:

This migration will start on December 4, 2025, and our team of skilled technicians will work diligently to ensure a seamless transition.

Okay, then.

On 12/4, I received this.

The infrastructure upgrade of your web hosting server is complete. We have successfully migrated all your website(s) and email data to the upgraded server.

We have identified that at least one of your websites uses an external DNS. For your website(s) and/or email(s) to start resolving from the new server, please ensure the domain name(s) are pointing to the new server IP address and/or MX record listed below.

Hmmm...

I followed instructions but all of my live links bring me to a page that says "account suspended." So, I sent them an email of my own.

Hello,
I am more than a bit confused about this migration, so please forgive me if my questions seem naive.

I have been using the following link to create my own hot link on my site, which allows readers to download what I am writing about. Now, after the migration, those links take you to a page that says, "Oops! Something went wrong." I thought by using the new link it would correct the situation, but instead, my browser takes me to a page that says "suspicious activity."

Is this because I need to wait the 24-48 hour period for the migration to complete, or am I doing something wrong?

Also, I have months and months of live links, will all of those need to be changed manually?

I heard back.

Our Technical Team referred your case to me. Their review shows you are using your webspace to store files without an active website. Shared hosting does not allow this. All stored files must link to a website hosted under your plan.

Your setup fits a VPS environment. A VPS gives you dedicated resources, private storage, and full control of your files. It supports large data storage without the limits of shared hosting. It also prevents resource flags that occur when file storage rises.

Please act soon. Continued use of shared hosting for file storage risks suspension under our Terms of Service.

I replied:

I am even more confused than I was when I first wrote.
This is my website.

I have been using you guys for 15 years. I paid for another year back in October. There has never been an issue, why is there an issue now?
Below are more examples of where I use links to the files.

Please explain to me what is different, that my account is now in danger of being suspended.

This was the last reply I received:

Hello Sal,

Thank you for getting back to me!

I will update your ticket so our Technical team can review your files and see if they are linked to your website. Once i have a feedback, I will get back to you.

As of this morning, all of the live links on Burning Wood, dating as far back as 2019, take you to a page that says my account has been suspended. If i do hear back and the company says it was their error, I may still have to manually change links to almost six years worth of zip files, which I simply cannot do.

I will think of an alternative for tomorrow's Songs Of The Week.

As for now, thoughts and prayers.

  2. Sorry to hear about tech troubles. Good luck. On another note, the Charles Brown and the Glenn Tillbrook were great, and the I Believe To My Soul and the Charles Brown just went to my listening queue, which has become unmanageable.

  3. Welcome to the 21st century. It sucks moose cock. Maybe we’ll have to start mailing audio cassettes to each other again.

  4. Any chance that one of us has or had a career in I.T. and would be willing to help?

    1. Thank you for suggesting that, Brian, but I don't think this is something anyone on the outside can fix. They have temporarily suspended my account because they are claiming I am violating their terms of service, even though they have been taking my money for 15 years for this exact service. What I didn't mention in the post, was that they were asking another $500.00 for this VPS service they suggested. It's hard to tell what's happening here. I'll wait for their reply and move on from there.

  7. To think what the Internet once was & comparing to today, & shit-shows like the one you’re going through, is pathetically sad. That initial blast of no-holds-barred freedom that the Internet once offered the world scared the living shit out of the powers-to-be & they’ve done a pretty good job of changing that over time.

I’ve an account on my health insurance’s patient portal. All my health information is stored in there, right down to what my blood pressure was the last time I saw a doctor.

So along comes this VERY long statement using many $2.00 words about what they’re doing & how my personal health information is being processed. In the end they want me to digitally sign it.

After re-reading it several times & still not understanding it I come across this little sentence that explains how, by signing it I will give permission to share my information with ANY health related professionals.

I called & questioned them about this & could tell the woman on the phone was reading a prepared script & still haven’t gotten a clear answer & I still haven’t signed that document. My doctors treating me are the only ones who need to read my information.

They’re still pretty persistent in pressing me to do so but I can’t believe that they think people are going to fall for this nonsense they thought up.

Sorry for the long off topic rant but your experience made me think of mine. Different story but same concept = CONTROL & guess who is always on the shit end of the stick?
