Vertigo Records Week, #2: Jimmy Campbell- Half Baked (1970)

Campbell went on to form Rockin' Horse and release the excellent, Beatle-esque "Yes It Is" in 1971.

  1. Thanks for this. Another great disc that I haven't thought about for years. Much appreciated.

  2. I'm sure Jimmy Campbell is great and I look forward to hearing the music, but this is about something else.

I had to buy a new computer recently, and that meant moving my library from one disk to another. As I was doing it, I was amazed at how much of my music came from Sal. Much of it I wasn't familiar with when I grabbed it but that stayed in rotation for a long time. Over the years when we're not pissed off at each other and the cracks in the friendship have healed, I've made it a point to to toss some money in the kitty, just because it's the right thing to do. Aside from a note of thanks, it's just my way of expressing gratitude for opening my ears a lot wider than they normally would be.

These are tough times for many of us, and I imagine it's no different here, and at the same time, in the upcoming AOC/Mamdani administration, our man here could be the first Secretary of Music and Culture. I for one, intend to get on his good side so that when he's under pressure to make "Seasons in the. Sun" the national anthem, he will remember us little people and resist.

    3. I believe "Seasons in the Sun" was written by a Canadian, so the ironies abound. 😎

  3. I echo Anon. Thx Sal! I vote for Neil Diamond's "America" as the new national anthem for its pro immigrant stance, incorporation of earlier anthems and nice audience participation when we shout along "today!" with Neil. I am assuming Funkadelic's "One Nation Under A Groove" is too long, too funky and too cool for most Americans. Or maybe Green Day's "American Idiot." The possibilities abound.
