Speak Now, Or Forever Hold Your Peace

Loyal Burning Wood reader and close personal friend of mine FD13NYC, asked this of me, in light of yesterday's Cheap Trick post:

"By the way, Sal, what would be your dream Cheap Trick set list?"

Well, Frank, Robin, Rick, Tom, & Bun E., here it is:

HOT LOVE
SOUTHERN GIRLS
SPEAK NOW, OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE
HEAVEN TONIGHT
TONIGHT IT'S YOU
HIGH ROLLER
TAXMAN, MR. THIEF
(new song of the band's choice)
I CAN'T TAKE IT
COME ON, COME ON
EVERYTHING WORKS IF YOU LET IT
(new song of band's choice)
MANDOCELLO
WAY OF THE WORLD
OH CANDY
YOUNGER GIRLS
STOP THIS GAME

encore

THE HITS

I'm thinking 7th row, center aisle at Town Hall, with Miles Nielsen as the opener.

See you there.

What? No "Stiff Competition"?

Otherwise, great set. I'd pay a reasonable price, plus Ticketmaster fee, plus convenience charge, adding the facility surcharge and parking fee of course, to see that set.

I remember an amazing Cheap Trick show in Ft. Lauderdale in 1980 or 81. Dream Police Tour. No opening act and they played for nearly 3 hours. we got tons of stuff from the first record and I took a girl I had a crush on. Truly it was heaven. Even if she never kissed me.

I have always referred to Cheap Trick as a "gateway band" for me, as they were the link between the shitty bands I used to like (Journey, Kansas, Styx) and the really great bands that I came to love (Clash, Elvis Costello, Springsteen). Chronically underappreciated, but never by real music aficionados such as yourself.

I have to go cut the grass and i think I'll pop on In Color or Heaven tonight to listen to while working.

Sal, you're a genius!!

EXCELLENT SAL!! Wouldn't touch it. With the slight exception of maybe, Oh Caroline, On Top Of The World on various nights. Oh hell, they should just play the first 4 albums.
