Runt: The Early Pressing

So, here it is, the early vinyl pressing of Todd Rundgren's debut, "Runt."

Only distinguishable from the common pressing by counting the bands on each side of the vinyl---this version had 5 tracks on one side and 7 on the other, as opposed to 4 and 6--the differences are as follows:

Broke Down & Busted- Short vocal intro extracted from "There Are No Words" as intro

Believe In Me - No differences

We Gotta Get You A Woman - No differences

Once Burned - Switched with "Who's That Man?"

Who's That Man - Switched with "Once Burned"

Hope I'm Around- Alternate version of tune that eventually appeared on "Ballad Of Todd Rundgren"

Devil's Bite - Several different edits, more notes in guitar solo

I'm In The Clique - No differences

There Are No Words - No differences

Baby Let's Swing - Full version with additional lyrics and without addition of other medley tunes "The Last Thing You Said/Don't Tie My Hands"

Say No More - Not found on later versions

Birthday Carol

I think if the response continues to be positive, "Todd Is Godd" Mondays will commence next week.

As the guy who asked about the medley, can't thank you enough. Can't wait to hear.

I'd be up for it too! I've logged many an hour ensconced in cans picking apart A Wizard, A True Star and Initiation (just for starters). Any reexamination of the Toddster is welcome.

Being a PHILLY GIRL I always felt like I had a running start to Todd in comparison to my Todd fan friends(very few and far between). My beginnings were late sixtish."RUNT" is my absolute favorite album photo cover.
I loved "NAZZ", I guess cause at that age they wewe a step above a Garage Band.
I love "HELLO IT'S ME" any way he does it. When I was single, I had boy/friends and always dated 2 or more guys at the same time. If I would answer the my little blue princess phone and a male voice would say hello,it's it would be like a SEINFELD episode....Who was I talking to. Now luckily we have caller I.D. and all the tech stuff.
I haven't heard anyone say whether they had their NAME printed on the poster.
I can't believe his songs are in 2 T.V. COMMERCIALS right now at the same time.
Does anyone remember seeing him play solo before "UTOPIA" with MIMES? I saw this show at the SPECTRUM THEATRE.
I saw "UTOPIA" in 1980 at ASBURY PARK CONVENTION HALL and backstage was KAREN and 2 little boys and a very sweet, cute girl, found out years later it was LIV.
I LOVE so many songs it's tough to analize them, then pick a favorite. "A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER","JUST ONE VICTORY",his version of "MONEY" and his version of "HANG ON SLOOPY", "CAN'T WE STILL BE FRIENDS" are just popping into my head right now.
MY 5 and 7 year old grandchildren love "NEVER NEVER LAND" They are infatuated with the "AWATS" album cover.
KEEP ON KEEPIN ON!!!!

I'm in!

First Listen (!)

Birthday Carol is as good as the rest of the album put together. I also dug I'm in the Clique. Gotta Get You a Woman made/makes my skin crawl -- then and now.
One man's opinion to be sure!

That's great Charlie, though I must admit, Clique & Birthday are my two least favorites on the album. But at least you're in. Proud of you.

I'd like to also add, I really dig Clique & Birthday. Just not the two songs I would ppoint to when defining the album. But that's what's great about music, no?

Upon its release in June 1970 the album was issued with 10 tracks. This is actually the second pressing details......After We Gotta Get You a Woman became a hit single, Ampex decided to press more copies of the LP in November 1970 to keep up with demand. A rejected 12 track master of the LP was accidentally sent to the pressing plant resulting in approximately 5,000 mis-presses. Instead of throwing out the LPs, Ampex decided to sell them anyway, unmarked, as a sort of surprise to the purchaser.

Thank you for clearing that up, Anon. I was not aware of that.
