The Kit Kats

In honor of my finding a nice, mono copy of the Kit Kats album for $5.00 at the Ponderosa Stomp Record Hop last weekend, please enjoy these Philly popsters with a respectable cover of the Beach Boys' "You're So Good To Me."

If you don't know The Kit Kats, it's time you got acquainted. Here's a little of what AMG has to say:

The Kits Kats had several big hits in the Philadelphia area in the mid-to-late 1960s, and were also a very popular live attraction in their native region, but never broke out nationally, although a few of their singles nibbled at Billboard’s Hot Hundred.

Their harmonies were in a league with the Four Seasons, the Happenings, the Tokens, and, more distantly, the Zombies and the sunshine pop of the Beach Boys and the Association.

Although some of their recordings were pedestrian period pop, their best ones had an ambitious complexity, though their innocuous name and square, clean-cut image ensured that listeners of the time, and historical critics, have largely overlooked and undervalued their work.

And if you like this, when you're through here, go over to Power Pop HERE, and get a taste of two more, including the gorgeous single "That's The Way," which I'm still not convinced isn't Cher backed by Phil Spector's Wall Of Sound.

YOU'RE SO GOOD TO ME

Thanks, Sal, great cover. I must have played "Summer Days.." at least three times a day when it came out. May have to play it tonight, scratches and all.

The official Kit Kats CD that you can get at Amazon has recent stereo mixes, by the same guy who remixed all the early Procol Harum stuff, and they sound great.

But.

There are details that somehow go missing. I downloaded a copy of the mono version of the the "It's About Time" album, from vinyl, over at the Redtelephone 66 and to be honest I think I prefer the mono, even with the vinyl noise.

Hi SAL, I'M A "PHILLY GIRL and IT ALWAYS SEEMED LIKE NO ONE ON EARTH BUT ME KNEW WHO THE "KIT KATS" WERE, AT LEAST IN MY CIRCLE OF FRIENDS. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY WERE A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THE "PHILLY SOUND". I SAW THEM A FEW TIMES AT THE JERSEY SHORE(I THINK), BUT THEY REPRESENTED A LOT OF THE EARLY "PHILLY " MUSIC THAT WE WOULD DANCE TO AT OUR LOCAL DANCES. "PHILLY HAD SO MANY SMALL LOCAL T.V. DANCE SHOWS AFTER SCHOOL.EVEN THOUGH WE HAD "BANDSTAND", WE WERE 7&8 GRADERS,THE LOCAL T.V. SHOWS WERE PERFECT FOR US. WE LIVED TO DANCE!!! LEARNING THE LINE DANCES THAT WENT TO CERTAIN SONGS WAS CRUCIAL.NEW DANCES DEVELOPED EVERYDAY AND LOOKING BACK NOW,IT WASN'T AS EASY AS IT LOOKED(WE LOVED EVERY ONE,AND I STILL REMEMBER ALL. WE HAD "JERRY BLAVET" WHO RAN THE NIGHT DANCES AS WELL AS HIS T.V.SHOW AND OPENED A CLUB IN MARGATE,N.J.(JUST SOUTH OF A.C.).I STILL HAVE A "JERRY BLAVET" L.P.
JUST WATCTH THE FIRST "HAIRSPRAY" MOVIE AND THAT WAS JUST LIKE US!!!!
SO MANY EARLY FUN MEMORIES WITH MUSIC OF ALL KINDS,THE"KIT KATS" INCLUDED.
THANKS SAL FOR REMINDING ME!!!!!
