"Wilcovers" : THE WEEKEND MIX

Interesting thing about Wilco and me, I experienced the opposite of what David H. mentioned in the comments section of yesterday's post (see below). In regards to discovering a band after an initially cold introduction, he said, "It took other people's passions to turn me around on things."

I loved Wilco's first two records, but it was the relentless clamoring over their third LP, "Summerteeth," and the comparisons to Brian Wilson that sent me to the showers early. Critically acclaimed, I wanted no part of "Summerteeth," mostly because I just didn't hear the Beach Boys. Or more accurately, I couldn't hear the Beach Boys.

When the pressure subsided and everybody shut up and started paying attention to something else, "Summerteeth" crept up on me and attacked. It's got Brian Wilson all over it. It's my favorite Wilco album, and one of my favorite records of the last 30 years.

Well, that's my intro.

Here's the mix.

Summerteeth...but these are covers.

Whoa! What a nice treat to wake up to. I almost made only my fourth FB post because of it. And I hate FB. And people who abbreviate everything. I love BW. Thank you again for another great weekend mix, Sal. ( waiting to see if my stupid computer will fail on the stuffit expander part )
I also was annoyed at first by Summerteeth, yet strangely have been more into the last three records than any of my friends.

Thanks Sal! (which by now should be [alt+s]) Inever heard the original, in fact my only aural experience is the two previous mixes -- Town Hall and rarities [alt+s].
Good stuff, as usual . . .

As the girls in my office send me out for boxes i think of "It's just a box of rain" and the dead with Pigpen at the spectrum. This song would be good on any list!

Sal,
I am curious, what does Burning Wood listen to, or do, on a 9/11 remembrance day ?
Rick

Well, I had some coffee and cereal, listened to the first Be Bop Deluxe album and the first Box Tops album, had a few margaritas and some Mexican food, wrote some of my next post, and now I am watching the Yankees and checking e-mail.

Why'd you ask?

Wow Sal,
Your descrition of your 9/11 day is very cryptic, not enough information....what kind of Mexican ?

Meanstreets is a lost soul on this day....so, I walk down south, where I was on that day, where everything changed....
And come home, & listen to Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris's " All The Roadrunning, & have a few " Stone " IPA'a....

I think it was a very good choice.

Maybe we should all take a minute of silence then put on Jimi at woodstock.

Sal,
As we are both HUGE Pretender fans, we are your thoughts now of her new CD with the Fairground Boys ?

2nd request Sal....please advise your thoughts on the Chrissie Hynde / Fairground Boys....CD, as it is on sale tomorrow at a very reasonable price....

She is the new " Mrs. Robinson "....

Sorry Meanstreets. I really thought I answered this.

The JP & Chrissie ok. Some good songs, but mostly did not kill me.

Tomorrow though, sees the release of 2 records that are strong contenders for my year-end Top ten.

Mavis Staples & Robert Plant.
