BRYAN FERRY- OLYMPIA
Love'em or leave'em, it's Bryan Ferry. I do love Roxy Music, though my least favorite "Avalon," is their most popular, and unfortunately, most of Ferry's solo releases since 1985's "Boys & Girls," sound like "Avalon," lush and best suited for play while shopping in Sephora or Pottery Barn. 2002's "Frantic" was the exception, with some adventurous song choices and the presence of Brian Eno. "Olympia," is thankfully similar.
Some big names are on board--David Gilmour, Nile Rodgers, Scissor Sisters, as well as old pals, Phil Manzanera and Brian Eno. Not everything works, but some of it really does.

I'd agree on all you say about Ferry / Roxy since 79 but do have a strange liking for Avalon, don't know why.
haven't had any reason to talk about roxy music lately, but that was a good group in their day...i can still vividly recall their live show, especially the sight of two leggy back-up singers dressed in military jackets and short shorts...i was hooked on the music of the bryans, phil, andy et al after my first listening to virginia plain, but i really dug the dreamy sounds of avalon (or do you think it was just the qualudes?)...and have you heard that ray charles album yet?

No love for "James Taylor"? So many good songs on that album. His voice hadn't matured yet. But compared to the original material on "Bob Dylan" (although he did step it up on "Freewheelin'") or "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.," well -- I'll take "James Taylor."
I'm of mixed minds about the Crowded House "Very Very." It's annoying to see the same songs recycled for no apparent reason, and yet part of me prefers this to a reissue with a couple of non-essential "bonus tracks."
Dave, it's the very reason you mention as to why I can't get behind the JT---his voice. That version of "Carolina In My Mind" makes me laugh. It's sounds sped up.
No Cool Jerk, have not heard the Ray? Should I listen?
Eric, both "Siren" and "801 Live" rank very high on my list of all-time favorte albums. That version of "Tomorrow Never Knows?!!" That intro?!! Wow.
