"2011...So Far" : THE WEEKEND MIX

It is just about the halfway mark of 2011, and I've already amassed a Top 17 of the year. I can't say if any of the albums represented on this "Weekend Mix" will make it to the end of the year list. But as of now, this mix contains some of my favorite music from some fantastic records released so far.

Feel free to let me know what's hovering in your top 5 if you don't see it here.

Have a good weekend.

Thanks BW. I'm an oldie and my music tastes run to "The Big Chill" era, but you have such great ideas about music that I'm eager to hear your picks for the best of this year - and any year. Really appreciate your kindness. All the best,

Great mix -- and a nice reminder of some excellent music so far.

You ask if there are things missing. I don't want to second guess the master but I would say my live show of the year so far was Joel Plaskett and The Emergency.

I know there is more to life than Rock and Roll stardom but why this guy isn't huge is beyond me. Joel has a new record out this week of B sides, alternates and outtakes -- essential for the fan but maybe not the place to start for the uninitiated.

If you get the chance to see him live or listen to any of his records grab it.

Have a great weekend.

What, no Robbie Robertson on your list?? (jk)

Personally, I have really liked the new Rebirth Brass Band disc a lot this year. Warren Haynes and Smithereens are excellent too. Just picked up the new Marc Broussard yesterday, and the jury is still out on it. Need to pick up the new Q.

Thanks Sal - just downloaded and looking forward to hearing. Criminally, I haven't heard a note of that new Strokes yet until I play the cut you chose - need to get that album, surely.

It's confession time. A couple of days ago I gave you 'Pearl Jam' as my pick for most overrated. To say I dislike them is an extreme understatement. When I saw that you had Eddie Vedder and his damned ukelele on the Weekend Mix I was set to hit the skip button. I didn't. 'Without You' has a touch of Cat Stevens and Glen Hansard and I'll admit I liked it very much. I hate you!
Ron Sexsmith was a no-brainer and I was glad to see the Smithereens and Cake.
I think Adele deserved a spot. Didn't much care for her 1st album but I'm loving the new one.
The big finds for me were Liam Finn and especially Gerry Beckley. Great tunes! Thanks for turning me on to them.
