"The Posies Got You Covered" : THE WEEKEND MIX

Self-explanatory, really.

I was moved to compile this after a random hit on Jon Auer's gorgeous take on Bread's "Games Of Magic," which led me to Ken Stringfellow's splendid redo of Bread's "Down On My Knees."

There's your inspiration.

You may have heard some of these before. I love them all. I've included a few other Jon and Ken solo takes, as well.

Enjoy power pop legends, together and apart, Jon Auer & Ken Stringfellow, The Posies!

*Love* the Posies. Why Jon/Ken aren't big smash alternative rock gods continues to baffle me even today.

I'm ignorant of their work outside of Big Star. Thanks for the intro.

More Posie love over here. Likewise, hadn't heard many of these covers. Thanks, Sal ... I look forward to hearing this.

You know what I'd say and it'd sound so sycophantic if I did.

Nice one Sal!

The Posies aren't rich and famous.

Nickleback are.

Darwin was wrong.

Downloading now and looking forward to it... esp to hear their take on that hoary (and much-loved by me) old Bee Gees song, "Every Christian Lionhearted Man Will Show You."

Also, I bought a 45 vinyl single the other day of a live tribute to Alex Chilton & Big Star, featuring some Posies players. I heartily recommend it - buy this at your local shop or order from Ardent online here, for a little more Posies-related rockin'...

Glad to see all the love here for the Posies. Have been a fan since moving to the Northwest in 1997. I could listen to these great covers all day. A couple I have never heard before. "Brief Candles" is staggering in its gorgeousness, and it somehow works perfectly to ratchet up the guitar volume during the chorus.

IMHO "She's Coming Down Again" on their most recent album may be the best piece of power-pop in the last 20 years.

Now that I've played this fantastic mix all weekend, just one question: when are the Posies going to release a covers album. This stuff is incredible. Thanks, Sal.
