If It's Tuesday, I Probably Should Care More About The Gaslight Anthem
Hello people. Got to admit, its been kinda quiet around here lately. Dog days of summer? Vacation? Busy at work? Or was it Georgie Fame? Something has kept you fine people away. (I bet if I posted more Rush or Todd Rundgren, you'd be all over my ass.)
As for me, I've been doing some summer spring cleaning and I came across a box of cassettes. Memorex Chromium Dioxides with that tricky box and fantastic smell. Found a tape of Pep In The Cat, Live From S.N.A.F.U.. Early and late sets, dated 2/11/84. Hell, I might not have even been legal when I sat behind that drum kit. I'll say this though, this band had balls.
From left to right-
Mike LaGennusa- Lead Guitar and vocals
Carl Mealha- Lead Vocals and keyboards
Frank DeStefano- Lead Vocals and rhythm guitar
Al DeLucia- Bass
Yours Truly- Drums and vocals
I'm pretty sure we started doing this Prince cover long before anyone cared about Prince. It was at least a year before Mitch Ryder's recorded version in 1983, which would have been about two years before the "Purple Rain" explosion.
So since Burning Wood activity has waned, I thought it'd be an okay time to sneak this in. I enjoyed it. Maybe you will too.

OK, this was good. Release some more stuff, Sal!
Cool. Really. So, Are you still playing, Sal?
p.s. I also care about the Gaslight Anthem
Jeff, I had been playing every week up until a year ago, but the bass player was called out of town on a personal matter. Gonna get back into it soon, I hope.
Good. Do it! I miss playing in a real band, myself. I'm limited to songwriting on Logic, but at least I can get into the studio with friends to record them every now and then, just for the hell of it.
I remember thinking how cool it was that we were doing a Prince tune and then how pissed I felt when Mitch Ryder 'stole' our thunder. There was someone else that started playing it as well around that time. Nice hearing it again and feeling that we did it justice.
Good drums, good band and good version. I'm on vacation, touring the southwest. We began in Denver, and trickled down through Durango into New Mexico, and am now in San Diego. Along the way I slept for two nights in a teepee, and had intermittent wifi access. Yesterday I set up a wireless router in the neighbor's house so my mother in law could use her Kindle, and I could write this.
Fantastic band! Great Prince song "When you were mine" You guys were awesome! Great memories!
I liked the Georgia Fame, and wish you'd post more of your stuff, too.
And I only wish I'd not been commenting due to vacation ...
A nice cover! But Sal, are you wearing Members Only in that picture? Hey it was the 80s.
Doesn't look like "Member's Only" from here, more like a Jimmy Dean jacket.
If memory serves, my jacket was red. It was some cheapo windbreaker advertising something, which I can't remember. But I admit, I did love those Members Only jackets.
Excellent.
The Blog World always seems to go quiet at this time of year Sal.
I remember remarking similarly last year,
Quiet? Quiet? Have we really been? OK, let's make a ruckus dammit!!
This was a cool track, but a cruel tease for fans of your blog. I sense more cool covers were up your sleeve in this band, so drop a few more on us!
And - do you still play around with any pickup bands, or just for yourself at home, Sal?
Very cool! And I love the photo. It gives me an excuse to go back several posts to when you asked about favorite concert memories.
Trying to decide about that occupied a great deal of time, although my concert going pales in comparison to yours, Sal, and from what I can tell , many of the other Burning Wood readers. My choices - the opening of "The Rising" tour, U2's Vertigo, Brian Wilson on a beautiful summer night in 2001, Bob Dylan with Elvis Costello as the opener - while seeming obvious, all had that transformative, why can't it last forever feeling for me. Edging those out (very, very slightly over Brian, an idol since I was 12), Prince's "One Night Alone" tour at Shea's in Buffalo, a 3,000 seat theater. That small size + Prince is what puts it on top.
(liked the Georgie Fame, too, and working on catching up on the posts I've missed)
Hey, nice stuff, Sal!!
Yeah, I've been a bit of a rare visitor these days - nothing personal - busy with a new-ish job and a new woman (I'm not trying to gloat or boast - I'm also going through divorce, so it's a big deal!) But I eventually check back in, so I appreciate the good work.
