This one got started the second CCR's "Bootleg" came on the iPod. Stu Cook and Doug Clifford fall into the pocket so quickly, there was no hope of getting out. I thought to myself, "These guys are in some groove." And there you have it. Had to do it.
From the New Orleans funk of Jon Cleary and the legendary Smokey Johnson to the grease of that little ol' band from Texas, ZZ Top, and back again with my favorite living drummer Stanton Moore, these 15 tunes should keep a few body parts bobbin' and weavin' for an hour.

Great mix. Spookily I had injected a "groovy" mix into last month's in-car compilation (you know, songs with groovy in the title: PP Arnold, Manfred Mann, Young Rascals, Mama's Boys, Simon & Garfunkel and so on) and now you've out-cooled me as usual. Vacationing now for 2 weeks so wish you well with new blog & look forward to catching up on both. Cheerio!
Sitting at my desk going through reams of paperwork after a horrible horrible week (a friend and colleague died suddenly and tragically; beyond the shock/grief, I've had to deal with the media coverage, the funeral, etc. etc) - this mix was a welcome relief. Another great looking mix! Thank you! We're on the road with erratic WiFi, so it may be a while 'til I can hear it. Robt. Palmer did a version of "Trick Bag"?! News to me. I'm trying to compile every extant cover of that garage rock masterpiece. So far, The Counts' version tops the list.

JAG, you do know "Trick Bag" is a New Orleans tune written by Earl King, yes?
@Sal, I do have the Earl King version and I *think* I had ID'd it as the original; I didn't realize King was from NO, though. I slapped the garage rock label on "Trick Bag" just because of The Counts' version. Seems like it was a standard with northwest combos back in The Day.

Wow, in all my years of Zep listening, I have never heard "Poor Tom" - what a way-cool song. How did I miss that one?

Sometime in the 80s, Atlantic released "Coda," an album of unreleased Zeppelin tunes. Some great stuff on there, including "Poor Tom," which I think was recorded either between "II" and "III," or "III" and "IV."
