Gem Of The Week

I came across this LP over the weekend. I had never seen it before. Mitch Ryder, backed by Booker T. & The M.G.s and produced by Steve Cropper.  Really? On Dot Records, no less, home of Pat Boone and Gale Storm.

What the hell?

Needless to say, my ass was kicked. There are two songs that just don't work for me, "Boredom" and "I Believe," but two out of twelve ain't bad. This collaboration is exactly what one would hope for--raw Detroit rock and soul meets deep, funky Memphis R&B. BOOM!

Where has this been all my life?

I have never done this before, but what the hell? Here's the whole damn thing. I figured it's worth posting, since the CD goes for $625 on Amazon.

And when you're done over here, Burning Love? wants to know which song never fails to take you to a place, good or bad, no matter how many times you hear it or how many years have passed.

As long as you're on a Ryder kick, give the DETROIT album a spin, too. They take ownership of Lou Reed's "Rock and Roll."

Um, hey, this is pretty great! Really! And I'm one who can be pretty tough on the funky soul-man stuff. (Not a bad lyric, by the way.)

Regarding James A. Gardner's comment on "Detroit," I have a very vague memory of once hearing it and not being too knocked out, but tastes and for that matter listening moods can change, so I might be checking that one out again.
