I've been listening to a bunch of new albums and thought I'd post a single from two of the most interesting. I was a big fan of the first Fitz & The Tantrums record. Their song "Picking Up the Pieces" was easily my favorite of 2011, so I've been eagerly awaiting this release. Their new record is called "More Than Just a Dream." It's a very different sound. Very 80s synthy, big hair, Ronald Reagan, you get the picture. While the songwriting is pretty topnotch, it sounds like on its second record the band is still figuring it all out. Sample the album's first single, "Out of My League," which is what I am here until Sal gets back.
This I do know: Luke Winslow-King is the real deal. He plays a mix of old-style New Orleans jazz, blues, Americana, country, ragtime in a laid-back voice that sounds like a cross between Harry Connick, Jr. and Leon Redbone. Here's a cut from his album. No big hair here.

Jeff,
I think Sal chose well when he left Burning Wood in your capable hands. I've enjoyed reading your thought-provoking posts, and apologize for not commenting. I rarely have anything scintillating to add when it comes to the knowledgable discussions around here.
So, thanks for an enjoyable week!
M.
Sal who?
(thanks)
M stole my post, so I'll just echo those sentiments. Sal's the man, but you were a great sub.
I really enjoyed reading this week's posts.
Thanks!
but if this were a blog on the Hiss case or wasting time I would be the man.
