I'm not big on the obituary thing. We lost J.J. Cale recently and a few people made mention of how I didn't make mention. I respect J.J., but as I said, I'm not big on the obituary thing.
Blue Oyster Cult, on the other hand, rocked my world during some very important years of my rock and roll life.
For those reading who might only relate to the classic rock airplay of "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" or the MTV rotation of "Burnin' For You," trust me...you're missing out on one of the most original bands of the twentieth century. And Allen Lanier had more than a lot to do with it all.
That's it.
A sad day. A great loss.
Go listen to their first 7 records.

I would always take pleasure in those unexpected lyrics that BÖC would turn.
Who would ever expect in a paean to a Japanese movie monster to find this:

My thoughts and feelings chime very closely with yours, sal. Blue Oyster Cult were a hugely positive part of my rock kid days and it's sad to see one of their number fall to the reaper. Spectres seems an appropriate disc to spin right now.
Agree with buzzbabyjesus about "Secret Treaties". One of my favorite albums from the 70's.

If it wasn't for BOC I'd have no computer passwords at work. They were always a band I drove other people crazy about trying to get them to LISTEN to them. Mr. Lanier, you will be missed.
