Two For Wednesday

John Doe's 2007 release "A Year In The Wilderness" was a favorite of that year. Last week, YepRoc rereleased that music on vinyl for the first time. The LP includes some bonus content available with the download code, as well as a bonus track on the record itself, a cover of Joni's "A Case Of You." I was happy to purchase this. I was also reminded of these two gorgeous gems from the record. Both are perfect love songs, one each for both ends of the road.

John Doe has always been a class act.

love love love JD. some of my favorite shows of all time were when he would bring a trio down to the Casbah in San Diego and rip through songs from X, Kissingsohard, Freedom Is, and For the Best of Us.

Hello all....no, please remain seated,

Great music. You actually turned me on to this album some time back when you featured Golden State on the site. More great John Doe stuff? Have you ever heard his tender-yet-manly version of Help Me Make It Through the Night with the Sadies? Gorgeous acoustic guitar solo.

John Doe is charming working with other artists -- ... Kathleen ... The Sadies ... Jill Sobule ...

And while I'm on the John Doe bandwagon ... I love the songs he sang on that "Dylan" I'm Not There soundtrack -- Pressing On & I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine.

Great stuff, thanks for posting them. At first I didn't see the relevance of this song to True Blood, but maybe it was the licking the lips lyrics reference.

Sal, this is one of the many reasons I come to your blog - you post something like this that I haven't listened to in awhile and I get to go dig out this and more John Doe. Thanks again!

Wish he'd write some new songs for X.

It's difficult to get excited about them touring when nothing new has appeared in close to twenty years.

"The Golden State" is a great, great song. And what I think John Doe does is write duets with women. Can't hardly think of anyone that does that [well] anymore. Doesn't hurt that he gets help from my favorite foul-mouthed Canadian readhead on this track.
