If you play this backwards it's The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy From Company C and you can clearly hear."I buried LaVerne Andrew." I read they sampled Bun E. Carlos from Who D' King.
"Eh. Spike Jones. I like the Jo Stafford version better." Love Jo!!! She's always sheer perfection, the tone, the pitch the phrasing. Thanks for posting this, fun.
my father used to come into my room when i was a kid to wake me up and after rubbing his scratchy pre shaven face in my belly he would sing this song. And that doesn't even account for Bugs Bunny's version and countless other cartoon versions. Thanks for the memories. and thanks for all the xmas mixes.
Hmm. I just put together a holiday mix not unlike one of yours where you stretch out and take a break or two from the holiday things to just enjoy the mix. I put the version of this song by Les Paul and Mary Ford on it. Highly recommend giving Les his props by going to the headphones. Sonically delightful.

Sal,
Jo Stafford can play my luau anytime.
Love this tune, but I think you'll have to agree that it's no Yaaka Hula Hickey Dula by Al Jolson.
Nothing like a Hebrew in Black Face singing a Hawaiian love song.
Best of everything for you this year...
