Gerry Goffin, 1939-2014

If Gerry Goffin had only written the following--

Will You Love Me Tomorrow
Keep Your Hands Off My baby
I'm Into Something Good
One Fine Day
Oh No Not My baby

--that would have been enough.

But he had to go and write these--

The Locomotion
Some Kind Of Wonderful
Up On The Roof
(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
I Can't Make It Alone
Pleasant Valley Sunday.

I had a Weekend Mix prepared, but it can wait until tomorrow.

GG has a couple obscurer-than-need-be solo albums in which he 'does Dylan' or gives a 'Badfinger' to Dylan that's about as good as Bob ever did -on originals that are smart & verbose & well-rhymed. Search 'em out!

We just heard "Up On The Roof" where the air is fresh and sweet. He had a way with words.

And "Goin' Back" and "Don't Bring Me Down"... and "Chains"

On the roof's the only place I know where you just have to wish to make it so... (and the stars put on a show for free).

Thanks Gerry. Talk about a dream team, Goffin/King

Aw, I am sorry to hear that. He was one of the great songwriters.

Hello all...no, please remain seated,

boy-o-boy...to use the time-worn cliche: they don't write 'em like that anymore.

RIP Mr. Goffin. Thanks for the songs.

What Sal said.

And BTW, I just adore that album cover photo of the young Gerry and Carole.

If I was in a fantasy lyricist league, I'll take Gerry Goffin and Hal David.
