Notes From A (Very) Long Weekend

I can't not talk about music. I can't do it.

A few weeks ago I made an attempt to resurrect the "Song Of The Day" into something similar. I was missing this and needed an outlet.  I created a Facebook group that I had hoped would turn into a simple discussion with audience participation. A place where "like minds" could share a song or two and maybe learn something new. Within 12 hours, there was zero resemblance to what I had in mind. As one friend put it, "Sal's page was bogarted!"

So that was that!

Why create something new when Burning Wood already existed?

So, if you're still out there, so am I. I just needed to clear my head.

6TH ANNIVERSARY

On September 3rd, Burning Wood will be 6 years old.

Also celebrating its six year anniversary is my membership to the website that hosts all the music files that I upload for your listening pleasure. Now there are plenty of sites who offer their hosting and storage services for free, but along with that free service comes more complications: time consuming downloads with passwords and wait times, limits, less space for me (and you), and more annoying pop-ups for massage therapy and Zoloft. Six years of zip files are still alive and waiting to be unzipped.

So it is with great humility that I ask this, if you like all the music that is posted- the "Weekend Mixes," and "Songs Of The Week"- and you feel like helping out, the donation button is halfway down the page, on the right.

Six years of this and I am still not comfortable pitching for donations. But after talking to some friends about this, they made me feel a little better about asking. I just can't afford it. NO amount is too small, not even nothing. I mean that.

Thank you again for all your support, your patience and your respect.

I can't say how pleased I am that you've returned (you just did say - ed). Other blogs lack the necessary fibre to stimulate my musical education and I've missed the erudition of your writing as well as the fervour of your rantings, logical or otherwise as they may appear to me! Happy to chip in with a small token of my appreciation.

Sal, it's so glad to have you back, I've been checking the site regularly to see if you had a change of heart. That was the best donation I'll make all year. it's really more of a musical tuition for a great value. Looking forward to more curmudgeonly rock and roll tales and great music......

Will definitely donate. Welcome back, though I always respect your decision to end this or take a break- I know it is such hard work and you work very hard at it- I missed Burning Wood and the group discussions here. There isn't really a music blog like yours, it feels like home. I mean that. I don't always feel comfortable adding my comments most other places. I do here.

Glad to see you back, Sal. Hey, we all need a break sometimes, even from things we love!

Just donated. I hope everybody who has gotten so much goodness out of your blog over the past 6 years does so as well.

Looking forward to reading the new stuff you posted and hearing the Paul show too!

WOW! 6 YEARS...of the greatest music blog goin' and
who can count all the hours of pleasure that's been literally given away for our enjoyment. I just want to say how thrilled I am to start another year of daily
music briefings via Burning Wood. See you in homeroom, Sal. And I'll be throwing a little something in the tip jar as well.
