Happy Birthday, Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr.

Yeah, I know. "What's Goin' On?" and "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" and "Let's Get It On" and blah blah.

But this little gem, tucked away on a posthumously released collection of oddities released in 1985, has been killing me softly for the last 30 years.

There is so much to love about Marvin Gaye, and yet I will call "It's Madness," a track left on the cutting room floor, one of his very best vocal performances.

Pretty damn gorgeous....never heard it, so it's like a birthday gift from the man himself. Thanks, Sal.

a friend of mine refers to Gaye as The Prophet.

A favourite of my ex-wife's but I won't hold that against him. Great lyrics plus voice of an angel as per. Cheers!

A beautiful song that was unaware of until you turned me on to it about 5 years ago. How did it wind up on the trash heap?

Ahhhhh.... NICE! Of all the fallen musical heroes I have who passed too early, Marvin's near the top of the list of those I'd love to have heard music from later in their life.

Bob Marley, the other half of the Beatles, and Hendrix would be others I'd love to hear new music from if they were still alive.

Again, great MG song here.
