The Rails: Australia

The Rails are James Walbourne and Kami Thompson. They are married. James once played with the Pretenders. Kami is still the daughter of Richard and Linda Thompson. I loved their debut album "Fair Warning" so much, it was my favorite record of both of 2013 and 2014, though I didn't realize this until after I posted my year-end lists.

They are back with an acoustic E.P. titled "Australia" featuring originals and covers. One of the covers is "Low Expectations," a song written by Edwyn Collins. Give it a listen. The entire E.P. is fantastic, but this cover really is the one for me.

Great song. I didn't know the original. Must hear it now.
And I love the Music Machine cover on the record as well.

The original's on EC's Gorgeous George album, which is full of great tunes.

How did you get the disc? I have both Kami's solo and The Rail's albums and love them so I would like to get this one.

I played Kami & her dad singing "A Heart Needs A Home" on my show tonight from 9/19/15 in Cambridge, UK. Damn she is good and also sounds so much like her mom.

Thanks for pointing this one out Sal.

Possible future (and past that I may have missed) BW topic - how much is musical talent inherited? Richard Thompson, John Lennon, Dylan, George Harrison, Loudon Wainwright and so many others have musician children we've heard of. I wonder how their success and talent compares with, say, the children of athletic stars?

Good stuff I'll have to look into.

Just excellent. Talent shines through. No bombast or gimmick. Just the music. Gotta get it.
