What says Happy New Year better than Johnny Rotten sneering,
"No Future, No Future, No Future for YOU!"?
I fell hard for punk in 1977. I bought an electric guitar, moved to Hollywood, and started several bands, the only one making it to the stage being King James And The Bible Burners.
I became part of the scene. I had a walk-on part in the war. It was tremendously bad fun.
I've been in a band of one kind or another ever since.
Happy New Year!
No Future

Speaking of punk, I watched the movie "CBGB" last night. Much better than I'd have expected. True punk-o-philes might disagree but worth a look. Alan Rickman does a great job as Hilly Kristal, never raising his voice above a mumble or his gait beyond a shuffle. Very good casting of the bands, too.

I'm afraid to watch CBGB, but on your recommendation, maybe I will.
Whilst never fully embracing the punk ethic (the hairstyles and louche sartorial elegance of the clothing left a lot to be desired) the bands which came along certainly gave my musical tastes a good kick up the pants. Many of said bands are featured in your nice little mix, for which many thanks. Just been reading a recent interview with Mr Lydon and meant to give some PiL stuff a listen. No future, right? Ha ha happy new year!
Happy New Year, and thanks for all you do! Great blog!
