Weekend Mix: Here Comes The SUN

If Elvis is Jesus then Sam Phillips is GOD. I've read Peter Guralnick's terrific two volume biography of Elvis, as well as "Lost Highway: Journeys and Arrivals of American Musicians", so I look forward to his latest, "Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock N Roll".

All the songs on this collection come from the accompanying 2 CD set curated by the author.
I don't have a single argument with his selections. These are my favorites sequenced by me.
Everybody should stop off in Memphis on their way to New Orleans. When I had to pick one or the other I chose Nashville, and I don't regret it, but next time will be Memphis.
In the '80's I had a friend working in a record store who routinely sold me fancy imports at her employee discount.  I discovered SUN through Charly Records, and their top-shelf reissues. They all look and sound great. I still have a lot of them including a 9 record set of SUN Blues.

I dug the brief post- punk Rockabilly revival of 1980 (culminating with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love), and even formed a band with a childhood buddy which went on without me to get a record deal and everything(Jimmy And The Mustangs).

I know all these songs like I wrote and played them myself and you should too.
The music speaks for itself. Regardless of the weather have a SUNny weekend!

Here Comes The SUN

Great idea Buzz. The book is one my list as well. Here are links to a couple of entertaining interviews with Guralnick:

Great mix, BBJ. BUT, I know you're a terrific artist, but you're no graphic artist. Your covers/set lists are virtually unreadable. I say this with all due humility - I'm grateful for all your hard work - but someone has to tell you, and who better than someone cowering under his cloak of anonymity? Now I have to go DL it.

Ha! Anonymous, yes, sorry about that. As usual I was running late and ran out of time so the graphics were rushed. I put all the effort into the mix itself.

Thank goodness I wasn't the only one who struggled to read the track list. Blimey O'Riley but it looks like an eye test chart at my optometrist's & I figured I must need new specs! Having said that, this looks to be a cracking mix (from what I can read of the titles!) and many thanks for taking the time to put it all together. Have a good one. Cheers!

Ok I get the message.

Thanks for the mix, BBJ! About to play it loud now. Enjoy your weekend

Anyone late to the game will see that the graphics have been opgraded, and are much easier to read. This change is also reflected in the download.

BBJ, You were in Jimmy and the Mustangs? I loved your EP. So much so I once stayed up late at night just to tape a song on an old VHS recorder when J&TM's appeared on "Thick In The Night".
That ill fated late night show with Alan Thicke that supposedly was going to bump Carson off his perch.
They performed "Justine" the old Don & Dewey hit. This was in the age of New Wave. But what shocked me most was the lead singer Jimmy, he came out with make up that included eyeliner and the whole nine yards. I was a little disappointed at the time. Anyway years ago I found the VHS tape and converted it and posted it on YouTube. A couple of days later Jimmy the original singer posted a reply in the comments section asking where I found this. I replied and he commented back asking me take it down. It appears he was trying to make a living as a blues singer and was embarrassed of it as I was of him at the time. So I honored his request and took the video down,
