Weekend Mix: UK Folk, Blues, & Beyond

This has been some of my favorite music for a long time. The title is adapted from Davy Graham's 1963 album, "Folk, Blues and Beyond..."
For those unfamiliar with the territory, this is a good place to start. For those readers who are, I've thrown some interesting curve balls.

Davy Graham could have ruled the world but instead became a cautionary tale of heroin addiction. He passed in 2008.
Fairport Convention is still active, and will be 50 next year.

Excuse my brevity, but I must get back to my "Morris Dancing".

Enjoy!

UK FOLK, BLUES,& BEYOND....

Brexit: When I posted this I'd forgotten all about the referendum. I knew it was imminent, but I was also sure it would fail. Holy Shit!

"Leave the factory, leave the forge and dance to the New St George"-Richard Thompson

Looks like a GREAT mix... until a few years ago, I didn't know who Bert Jansch et al were. (My loss.) Now I know, but still, not much. Thanks for this primer!!

I think it's amazing that although you and I don't know each other, how we can own pretty much the same record collection. Life is good.
Thanks for picking different tunes than i would pick.
Good job.

So many good ones to choose from. Funny that a lot of the time I thought I was the only one listening to it.

Thank you for this, Buzz. Read your blurb and assumed I would have or know everything, but no. Lots here that I just never got round to (Tir Na Nog,Bridget SJ eg) or don't remember (not obvious choices). So really looking forward to hearing this. Even the graphics are readable! If you squint a little.
Bravo!

Your fine compilation may bring a little relief from the Brexit blues. Some smashing stuff in there. Many thanks!

Bridget St John!!! I was love with her from afar as a spotty youth. Great mix. I have them all in different places, but a great mix for a long drive tomorrow. May your baldricks never get twisted.

I guess if you have some of these artists, you tend to have all of them.

Just like Fairport's rhythm section of Daves' Mattacks and Pegg, with former bandmate Richard Thompson back up both Nick Drake and John Martyn. Fairport's original bassist Ashley Hutchings left to form both Steeleye Span, and The Albion Country Band.

and then Rick Kemp left Michael Chapman and joined Steeleye, married Maddy Prior and had Rose... and so the circle continues. And as for the Thompson family, we know that story. And I love The Rails.
Cheers

And Mick Ronson left Michael Chapman to work with Bowie, and Rick Wakeman, formerly of Strawbs, on the folk prog tip.

And before Rick Wakeman joined Strawbs, their singer, Sandy Denny, left to join Fairport Convention.
