Happy Birthday, Roy Wood!

"The heritage rock mags never run grand retrospective features, tracing his career from the Move, through the formation of ELO to Wizzard and his extraordinary, maverick solo albums, Boulders and Mustard, in the 1970s. He is seldom placed on a par with all the other revered idiosyncratic pop craftsmen, which is exactly where he belongs. If Todd Rundgren had come from Birmingham, if Frank Zappa could have stopped himself sneering for five minutes, they might have made records like Roy Wood."

The genius from Birmingham turns 70 today! The quote above is pulled from The Guardian, which has a great, little feature HERE.

If you've got nothing to do, after you go and vote, that is, might I suggest listening to Roy's "Boulders" and "Mustard."

I recommend "Introducing Eddie And The Falcons".

Great suggestions, and you may as well keep going and listen to The Move. It's a shame they weren't better known in the US.

As he wrote a lot of classic songs during my early forays into pop music, it's nice to see Mr Wood receive some of the credit he richly deserves. Loved The Move and Wizzard - seeing them live was a madcap experience - and now, of course, I'm singing "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day" (the version without The Wombles). Good of you to pick up the birthday tribute.

I've been listening to "Curly" way too much lately. Still, a pleasant change from "See My Baby Jive." Gotta stay open, y'know?
