And Dat's Dat

I doubt there is anyone out there with the time, patience and math skills to conduct this same experiment by pitting different songs against each other, just to see if "Rubber Soul" ends up having more songs in the mix. So, we will conclude this experiment with the final track list of 9 songs for "A Hard Day's Night" and 4 for "Rubber Soul." And I have no doubt that, when asked to rank The Beatles work from best to worst, "A Hard Day's Night" will still be left off of the Top 5.

1. A Hard Day's Night
2. Norwegian Wood
3. If I Fell
4. Nowhere Man
5. And I Love Her
6. Tell Me Why
7. Can't Buy Me Love
8. Anytime At All
9. Girl
10. Things We Said Today
11. In My Life
12. You Can't Do That
13. I'll Be Back

Suggestions for a future album battle?

Let It Be versus Let It Bleed would get my vote.

The winners make a great Beatles album/comp.

It would sure be a better album if we could swap out "Amytime At All."

Future albums battles...3 come to mind
Kinks
Steely Dan
Rolling Stones.
Logically, the Stones would appear to be #1 due to their cultural significance and Beatles vs...

Album battles are hard because you have to find two albums in an artists catalog that have the same # of songs.

(I thought about "Headquarters" vs. "Picses, Aquarius..." but that would probably alienate everybody... and it's a 14 vs 13 song battle...)

"Destroyer" vs. "Dynasty"? Hah!

"Pretenders" vs "Pretenders II"? -- both have 12 songs

"Let It Be" vs. "Tim" vs. "Pleased to Meet Me"? -- all have 11 songs.

OOOH -- how about "Murmer" vs "Automatic For the People"? Both have 12 songs. Different stages of REMs career. Classic debut vs their best (IMO) album? I'm serious about this one.

Shriner,

We already had Beggars Banquet VS. Sticky Fingers.

I would love to do a Monkees battle. I've been on a serious binge for about a month, especially "Instant Replay," which has some of Nesmith's best. But you may be right about alienating everyone. Too bad.

Is there anyone who thinks Pretenders II was any good, or at least worthy enough to go against the debut, which was universally acclaimed?

Hello all...no, please remain seated,

Ok. I'll throw an idea into the hopper....Dylan: Highway 61 Revisited vs Blood On the Tracks.

9 songs vs 10, but that could be finessed, perhaps.

My wife is a huge RS fan. When I did the comparison with her, she selected 9 HDN and 4 RS songs. Although she still prefers RS, she was amazed at the final tally. joe

I *love* Pretenders II. I love Pretenders I, but there are many songs on II that I think are better than on I.

Message of Love? Talk of the Town? Birds of Paradise? The English Roses?

Classics all. They are really two sides of the same coin for me.

On a *head-to-head track battle*, songs from II would beat songs from I without a doubt.

And if you take the novelty songs off Headquarters and Pisces... it would be a 12v12 battle. You can do it. It's your blog! ;-)

Not an even number but it would be interesting to do Born to Run versus Darkness on the Edge Of Town...do you think Born to Run would take everything...

Nirvana: 'Nevermind' vs. 'In Utero'
David Bowie: 'Hunky Dory' vs. 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'
Elton John: 'Honky Chateau' vs. 'Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy'

Since the only Monkees studio album I've ever listened to is their latest, I for one would welcome a Monkees showdown.

Or Joni Mitchell's Court & Spark vs Blue. You can leave off the cover song "Twisted" at the end of Court and it's 10 v 10 tracks.

Thanks for all the work! It was fun and a great way to really listen to these songs again in a new context.

I know Shriner is a big fan of The Monkees, as am I. I also know a bunch of people, like you Michael Giltz, who have never heard more than Daydream Believer, or the new one because it was a new one.

Tomorrow's Weekend Mix will be some of my personal Monkees faves. It's light on hits, but heavy on amazing music. Stay tuned...

if it doesn't have "What Am I Doing Hangin' Round?" on it, it's not a valid Weekend Mix.

Just saying...

Of course it does!

I second Captain Al's suggestion. Very different albums that could match up well
