Bird Bird, Bird Streets Is The Word

I had not heard of John Brodeur before Bird Streets. I hadn't heard of Maggie Mayday or The Suggestions either, two bands Brodeur was part of. But, I have loved everything Jason Falkner has touched from Jellyfish and The Grays, to his own very small but potent solo catalogue, so Bird Streets, the new project from Brodeur and Falkner was going to be a no-brainer. It dropped on Friday and it is as wonderful as I hoped it would be.

I will refrain from comparisons. Instead, just sink your ears into an amazing collection of lovingly produced and brilliantly performed songs, full of hooks and harmonies and all those great things pop and rock records should be.

As a diehard Jason Falkner fan, who also produced Bird Streets, I hear his stamp everywhere. And though, John Brodeur handles the lead vocals, if you're a Falkner fan as well, you will hear him in Brodeur's phrasing.  On my third pass through Bird Streets, I realized there wasn't one song that felt weak or unnecessary. This is a true winner.

John Brodeur.

Jason Falkner.

Bird Streets.

Ordered.

Now, when is Mr. Falkner going to take some time out of his busy schedule to release some new music for himself... and us.

Was able to 'obtain' a digital copy whilst awaiting my vinyl order - this guy sounds just like Dan Wilson from Trip Shakespeare/Semisonic. The album sounds really great - can't wait to hear it on the stereo.

Spinning Muscle of Love, huh? Man, I tried to like it but what a letdown after the previous four Alice albums.

Randy, I agree it’s hatd to top LITD, Killer, School’s Out and Billion Dollar Babies, but I think the next three -Muscle, WTMN and Go To Hell all have more than a few great moments. Give Muscle Of Love a fresh spin if it’s been awhile. After Bird Streets, of course!

Finally got around to listening to this. It's really good. Strangly, I heard a lot of "Nada Surf" in the song structure as it went along (in addition to what seemed like Falkner flourishes...). Thanks for the tip on this one!
