Let 'Em Roll- Big John Patton
The first of two jazz tunes to get things started. I gave this album a "One Sentence Review" recently. It's a great soul jazz session that really stands out thanks to Bobby Hutcherson on vibes who really adds a nice touch to these grooves. This is the title cut.

Un Poco Loco- Bud Powell
And speaking of grooves, "Un Poco Loco" is all kinds of badass.

Stop Stop Stop- The Hollies
This was one of the very first 45s I owned. (The other two were Petula Clark's "Downtown" and The Jive Five "I'm A Happy Man.") I can't recall why this came to mind this week, though I think it does sound great heading into the...

Rockestra Theme- Paul McCartney & Wings
And John Bonham. And Pete Townshend. And David Gilmour. From "Back To The Egg," one of Macca's severely underrated records.

Smiling Phases- Traffic
From Traffic's debut, which has many differences between the U.K. mono and the U.S. stereo, including the title and tracklist. I play both about as often as anything in my collection.

Speak Now, Or Forever Hold Your Peace- Terry Reid
Cheap Trick's cover of this Terry Reid tune was the first song I ever heard by them, and for a very long time, did not realize it was not an original. I recently picked up a budget U.K. press on EMI's Music For Pleasure label of Reid's second record where this version could be found. Note to vinyl hounds: this U.K. budget press sounds a helluva lot better than that muddy U.S. press on Epic.

Forever Now- The Psychedelic Furs
I have a friend who has only just started listening to the Furs, having ignored much of the 80s new wave scene. She's digging them. This Todd Rundgren produced track goes out to her.

Much gratitude, Sal. Your site always provides me with new listening experiences as well as reminders/refreshers on neglected classics. All presented with great passion, knowledge, and thoughtfulness.
Terry Reid was a revelation - I was aware of him, but other than a song or two, really hadn’t investigated. ‘Superlungs’ was simply fantastic! Regret being so tardy.
I love the new Furs album; one which I probably would’ve never heard if not for your enthusiastic review. Today’s mix has me now fully and joyfully immersed in their catalog. ‘Talk Talk Talk’ remains my personal favorite. ‘Forever Now’ is the best introduction though - and a very close second (tied with the debut). Their early albums still captivate me. Thank you again! Best wishes to everyone.
I recall reading a review many years ago where the author suggested that Butler got the voices that Bowie didn’t claim. Always thought that was pretty accurate.

To me, Stop Stop Stop is one of the great pure pop songs of all time.

We are in total agreement about "Back to the Egg".

Love that Hollies song. There is a good cover of Stop Stop Stop on Boiled In Lead's From The Ladle To The Grave (1989), and the whole ablum is a wacky brew of punk and world music. https://www.discogs.com/Boiled-In-Lead-From-The-Ladle-To-The-Grave/release/2164014

Thanks for doing the zippering, probably the best SOTW since last week's. And a big thumbs up for the Rockestra track. Cheers!
