Shut Up & Listen To "Shut Up & Listen"

If you are a rock and roll fan then you will no doubt find the names Earl Slick, Steve Holley, Paul Santo and Mark Hudson on a few of your favorite records in your collection. Jeff Matthews has them all on his new E.P. "Shut Up & Listen" and it is a rocking good time.

Jeff's songs are smart, funny and occasionally, so true they hurt. And the best part of all those songs are those damn hooks! If the title track isn't one of the best rockers of the year, then I'm packing up and starting a cooking blog.

Still there is more.

"Hot Mic" has a pocket so deep you'll need a miner's helmet to get out.  Steve Holley, who has been a rock with Ian Hunter's Rant Band for years, shows what a monster behind the kit he still is. And "Hook Line Singer" is a pop gem that just might find temporary residence in your brain, and I say that in the best possible way.

There really isn't a bad moment on "Shut Up & Listen." Jeff Matthews is surrounded by some of my favorite musicians but we all know that means nothing without the songs. Thankfully, Matthews delivers those in spades, as well. And in the hands of the mad genius producer Mark Hudson, "Shut Up & Listen" will make you do just that.

Listen to it all right here.

"Shut and Listen" is certainly a great rocker. For some reason reminded me of "Diamond Dogs" on hormones. Great song! Together with "Hook Line Singer", it's just something you have to check out.

Dig it. Great playing and production. Wish there was an entire album.
